  1. 1. Linking biodiversity and recreational merits of urban green spaces : methodological development

    Author : Qiu Ling; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Urban green spaces play an important role in promoting both biodiversity and human recreation. This thesis therefore attempted to link biodiversity and recreational values of urban green spaces through an interdisciplinary research of trade-offs and synergies between biodiversity conservation and human recreation. 2. 2. The relation of blood pressure to dementia in the elderly : a community-based longitudinal study

    Author : Chengxuan Qiu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Blood pressure; heart failure; dementia; Alzheimer s disease; apolipoprotein E gene; antihypertensive medication; aging; geriatrics; epidemiology; population-based study;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis concerns a community-based, prospective study aimed at investigating the complex relationship between blood pressure (BP) and risk of dementia in a dementia-free cohort (n = 1301) aged >=75 years in Stockholm, Sweden. After baseline survey (1987-1989), the cohort was followed for over 6 years, during which 2 waves of clinical examinations (1991-1993 & 1994-1996) for dementia and Alzheimer's disease (AD) (DSM-III-R diagnostic criteria) were performed. 3. 3. Leukotrienes and leukotriene receptors : potential roles in cardiovascular diseases

    Author : Hong Qiu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Leukotrienes (LTs) are a family of lipid mediators that are involved in host defense and inflammatory responses. They are synthesized from arachidonic acid through the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) pathway, and are divided into two classes, the classical chemoattractant leukotriene B4 (LTB4), and spasmogenic cysteinyl leukotrienes (cys-Us) including LTC4, LTD4 and LTE4. 4. 4. Quantified In Situ Analysis of Initial Atmospheric Corrosion : Surface heterogeneity, galvanic effects and corrosion product distribution on zinc, brass and Galvalume

    Author : Ping Qiu; Christofer Leygraf; Béatrice Hannoyer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmospheric corrosion; Zinc; Brass; Galvalume; In Situ; Quantification.; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The interaction of the surface of a pure metal or an alloy with the surrounding atmosphere occurs in a highly complex interfacial regime. During atmospheric corrosion this interfacial regime involves the metal surface, often covered by a naturally formed oxide layer of a few nanometers thickness; an aqueous adlayer, typically with a thickness of a few to a few tens of nanometers, and the atmosphere from which airborne particles, oxygen, and gaseous pollutants dissolve into the adlayer and influence the atmospheric corrosion process. 5. 5. Transition Metal-Based Electrocatalysts for Alkaline Water Splitting and CO2 Reduction

    Author : Zhen Qiu; Tomas Edvinsson; Kevin Sivula; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alkaline water splitting; CO2 reduction; Electrocatalyst; In-situ Raman spectroscopy.; Kemi med inriktning mot materialkemi; Chemistry with specialization in Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : With excessive usage of fossil fuels and ever-increasing environmental issues, numerous efforts have been devoted to the development of renewable energies for the replacement of traditional fossil fuels to reduce greenhouse gas emission and realize the rapidly growing demand for global energy. Renewable energies, however, often show diurnal and seasonal variations in power output, forming a need for energy storage to meet people’s continuous energy supply. READ MORE
