    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis deals with optical studies of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) in the InGaAs material system. It is shown that for self-assembled InAs QDs, the interaction with the surrounding GaAs barrier and the InAs wetting layer (WL) in particular, has a very large impact on their optical properties. 2. 2. Silicon nanowires, nanopillars and quantum dots : Fabrication and characterization

    Author : Robert Juhasz; Jan Linnros; Philippe M. Fauchet; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silicon nanowires; silicon nanopillars; silicon quantum dots; size-reduction; thermal oxidation; electrochemical etching of silicon; photoluminescence; Semiconductor physics; Halvledarfysik;

    Abstract : Semiconductor nanotechnology is today a very well studied subject, and demonstrations of possible applications and concepts are abundant. However, well-controlled mass-fabrication on the nanoscale is still a great challenge, and the lack of nanofabrication methods that provide the combination of required fabrication precision and high throughput, limits the large-scale use of nanodevices. 3. 3. Many-Body effects in Semiconductor Nanostructures

    Author : Carl-Johan Wesslén; Eva Lindroth; Morten Førre; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coupled cluster; nanostructure; quantum dot; quantum ring; concentric quantum ring; many body pertubation theory; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Low dimensional semiconductor structures are modeled using techniques from the field of many-body atomic physics. B-splines are used to create a one-particle basis, used to solve the more complex many-body problems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quantum transport and spin effects in lateral semiconductor nanostructures and graphene

    Author : Martin Evaldsson; Igor Zozoulenko; Vidar Gudmundsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electronic transport; Spin related phenomena; Quantum dots; Quantum wires; Two-dimensional electron gas; 2DEG; Graphene; Computational physics; Beräkningsfysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis studies electron spin phenomena in lateral semi-conductor quantum dots/anti-dots and electron conductance in graphene nanoribbons by numerical modelling. In paper I we have investigated spin-dependent transport through open quantum dots, i.e., dots strongly coupled to their leads, within the Hubbard model. READ MORE

  5. 5. Confinement Sensitivity in Quantum Dot Spin Relaxation

    Abstract : Quantum dots, also known as artificial atoms, are created by tightly confining electrons, and thereby quantizing their energies. They are important components in the emerging fields of nanotechnology where their potential uses vary from dyes to quantum computing qubits. Interesting properties to investigate are e.g. READ MORE
