16. Exploring the Set of Quantum States
Abstract : Quantum mechanical properties of finite dimensional quantum systems are used within the field of quantum information. In this thesis the set of states (density matrices) for such systems is studied and described, largely in geometrical terms. READ MORE

17. Single Photon Sources and Single Quantum System enabled Communication
Abstract : Quantum information is a highly interesting and fast emerging field that involves processing information encoded into quantum systems and their subsequent use in various information tasks. The use of quantum resources such as superposition and entanglement have shown to enhance information processing capabilities beyond classical means in a number of communication, information and computation tasks. 18. Coherent Interactions in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Crystals for Applications in Quantum Information Science
Abstract : This thesis describes investigations of the use of cryogenically cooled rare-earth-ion-doped crystals for quantum information processing and quantum optics. Several aspects of the coherent interaction between light and rare-earth ions in solids are addressed. Quantum information science has given physicists new views of quantum mechanics. READ MORE

19. Quantum error correction
Abstract : This thesis intends to familiarise the reader with quantum error correction, and also show some relations to the well known concept of information - and the lesser known quantum information. Quantum information describes how information can be carried by quantum states, and how interaction with other systems give rise to a full set of quantum phenomena, many of which have no correspondence in classical information theory. 20. Quantum Coherence and Quantum-Vacuum Effects in Some Artificial Electromagnetic Media
Abstract : The author of this thesis concentrates his attention on quantum optical properties of some artificial electromagnetic media, such as quantum coherent atomic vapors (various multilevel electromagnetically induced transparency vapors) and negative refractive index materials, and suggests some possible ways to manipulate wave propagations inside the artificial electromagnetic materials based on quantum coherence and quantum vacuum effects. In Chapters 1 and 2, the author reviews the previous papers on quantum coherence as well as the relevant work such as electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), atomic population trapping and their various applications.
