  1. 1. Emergent spacetime from simple field theories

    Author : Julius Engelsöy; Bo Sundborg; Sumit R. Das; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AdS CFT; thermalization; quench; large N singlet models; emergent spacetime; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Thermalization is an elusive phenomenon in quantum mechanics. Since according to the AdS/CFT correspondence, a black hole in the bulk spacetime is dual to a thermal state in the boundary CFT, thermalization in the CFT is dual to black hole formation in AdS. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies of flow and heat transfer in as quenching : quench chambers, impingement, cooled bodies, and inverse solutions

  3. 3. Quench-Condensed Metallic Clusters Studied by Single Electron Tunneling

    Author : Andrey Danilov; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Using angle deposition through conventional electron-beam lithographic masks as the sample resistance was measured in situ, we defined constrictions with widths and lengths of about 5 nm in thin (1-3) nm granular films. The nominal film thickness in the constriction could be varied stepwise by in situ film depositions, changing the grain size and the configuration of the tunneling paths. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effects of Varying Combustion Conditions on PCDD/F Formation

    Author : Johanna Aurell; Stellan Marklund; Sukh Sidhu; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dioxin; formation; PCDD; PCDF; MSW incineration; transient combustion; sulfur; memory effects; quench time; chlorine; combustion; polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes; NO; water; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) are by-products emitted from combustion sources such as municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration plants. These organic compounds are recognized as toxic, bioaccumulative and persistent in the environment. READ MORE

  5. 5. Thermal formation and chlorination of dioxins and dioxin-like compounds

    Author : Stina Jansson; Stellan Marklund; Mats Tysklind; Jochen F. Müller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dioxin; dioxin-like compounds; isomer distribution pattern; homologue profile; injection; O2PLS; PCDD; PCDF; PCN; PCBz; PCPh; MSW combustion; formation; chlorination; flue gas; quench profiles; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to an increased understanding of the formation of dioxins and dioxin-like compounds in combustion processes. Although emissions to air from waste incineration facilities have been greatly reduced by the use of efficient air pollution control measures, the resulting residues (ashes and filters) are highly toxic and are classified as hazardous waste.
