  2. 2. Space Geodesy Techniques: An Experimental and Theoretical Study of Antenna Related Error Sources

    Author : R. T. Kenneth Jaldehag; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reflector antennas; signal scattering; very long baseline interferometry VLBI ; signal multipath; space geodesy; GPS error sources; geodetic networks; Global Positioning System GPS ; postglacial rebound; choke-ring antennas;

    Abstract : This thesis presents work associated with antenna related error sources, as well as antenna design, in space geodesy utilizing the techniques of Very-Long-Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) and the Global Positioning System (GPS). Geodetic VLBI uses large radio telescopes, often in global networks observing at least a few times per year. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hydrothermal alteration of organic matter at spreading centers

    Author : Eva Andersson; Bernd R.T. Simoneit; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; Biogeochemistry; biogeokemi;

    Abstract : Alteration of organic matter, mainly amino acids, at sub-seafloor hydrothermal conditions has been investigated by performing laboratory experiments and by studying deep-sea sediments from hydrothermally active areas on the northern Juan de Fuca Ridge, northeast Pacific Ocean.Quaternary sediments from Middle Valley and the eastern flank of the Juan de Fuca Ridge recovered during the Ocean Drilling Program Legs 139 and 168 have been analyzed for total hydrolyzable amino acid concentrations, individual amino acid abundances and stereochemistry in order to evaluate the effects of hydrothermal stress on the decomposition of sedimentary amino acids. 5. 5. Organic Phosphorus Compounds in Aquatic Sediments : Towards Molecular Identification with Mass Spectrometry

    Author : Heidi De Brabandere; Monica Waldebäck; Emil Rydin; Per J. R. Sjöberg; Rolf Danielsson; William T. Cooper; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrospray ionisation; mass spectrometry; liquid chromatography; organic phosphorus; aquatic sediment; eutrophication; sample preparation; extraction; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Phosphorus (P) regulates trophic status in most aquatic systems. However, only bioavailable P contributes to primary production. In most lakes and shallow seas, mineralisation of sediment P into its bioavailable form and its release to the water column is important for maintaining primary production. READ MORE
