  1. 6. Specification of Dorsal and Intermediate Telencephalic Character

    Author : Matthew Marklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; telencephalon; forebrain; dorsoventral patterning; WNT; FGF; RA; retinoid-mediated signaling; development; specification; cortex; striatal; intermediate; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The telencephalon is the most highly evolved region of the vertebrate central nervous system (CNS). The major structures of the telencephalon - the cortex and basal ganglia – derive from the dorsally positioned pallium and the ventrally positioned subpallium, respectively. READ MORE

  2. 7. From disease to genes in animal models of rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis

    Author : Therese Lindvall; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mice; animal models; autoimmunity; CIA; EAE; RA; MS;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and multiple sclerosis (MS) are complex inflammatory autoimmune diseases. The aetiology is largely unknown but the risk of developing disease is dependent on both genetic and environmental factors. READ MORE

  3. 8. English Place-Name Elements Relating to Boundaries

    Author : Boel Jepson; Engelska; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; ge mǣre; Middle English; Old English; charters; onomastics; *rān; mearc; dialectology; the West Riding of Yorkshire; Gloucestershire; hār; ; rein; *rǣn e ;

    Abstract : Place-names often reflect local, cultural, and political history. It is only natural, therefore, that words for such historically important phenomena as boundaries should form part of place-names. In England, there is a fair number of place-name elements that refer to boundaries. Some of them are treated in this thesis. READ MORE

  4. 9. Activity-regulated retinoic acid signaling in olfactory sensory neurons

    Author : Hande Login; Staffan Bohm; Mattias Alenius; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mouse olfactory system; RA; neuronal activity; CNG; Cyp26B1; BACE1; Kirrel-2; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The aim of the studies included in the thesis is to better understand the interplay between neuronal activity-dependent gene regulation and the bioactive vitamin A metabolite all-trans-retinoic acid (RA) during postnatal development, refinement and maintenance of precise neuronal connectivity using the olfactory sensory neuron (OSN) in the olfactory epithelium (OE) of genetically modified mice as a model. We show that:Inhibition of RA receptor (RAR)-mediated transcription in OSNs reduces expression of the olfactory cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) ion channel, which is required for odorant receptor (OR)-mediated stimulus transduction. 5. 10. Inflammatogenic properties of endogenous DNA

    Author : Shahin Hajizadeh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Inflammation; mtDNA; oxidized DNA; SF; CSF; RA; dementia;

    Abstract : Bacterial DNA and CpG-containing oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) induce host inflammatory responses as a result of their content of unmethylated ¡§CpG motifs¡¨. Since the CpG motifs in the mitochondrial (mt) genome are in this respect similar to bacterial DNA, in that they are non-methylated, we investigated whether mtDNA also displays inflammatogenic potential.
