1. Global stability analysis of complex fluids
Abstract : The main focus of this work is on the non-Newtonian effects on the inertial instabilities in shear flows. Both inelastic (Carreau) and elastic models (Oldroyd-B and FENE-P) have been employed to examine the main features of the non-Newtonian fluids; shear-thinning, shear-thickening and elasticity. 2. Early Pottery Use among Hunter-Gatherers around the Baltic Sea
Abstract : This thesis aims to provide an understanding of the dynamics underlying the adoption of pottery by pre-agrarian hunter-gatherer cultural groups around the Baltic Sea. The focus is on three approximately contemporaneous early pottery traditions of the region (ca. READ MORE

3. Analysis of Deformation of Gas Diffusion Layers and the Impact on Performance of PEM Fuel Cells
Abstract : Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells have been promoted due to significant breakthroughs in various aspects and increasing public interests. The porous features of the gas diffusion layer (GDL) and the necessary assembly processes generate localized pressure forces on the channel/shoulder structure of the bi-polar plates (BPP). READ MORE

4. Analysis of melanins
Abstract : Mammalian melanins are of two major types, eumelanins and peheomelanins, which often occur together, then called mixed-type melanins. A method has been developed for analysing the various forms of melanins. READ MORE

5. Analysis of ginesenosides
Abstract : New analytical methods were developed in order to evaluate commercial ginseng preparations and to allow studies on urinary excretion of ginsenosides in humans after consumption of ginseng preparations. An optimized alkaline procedure was developed for cleavage of the glycosidic bonds that was clearly superior to previously reported hydrolysis procedures of ginsenosides because of (a) completeness of the reaction and (b) absence of the artifacts found in acid hydrolysis.
