11. Stereoselective synthesis of semiochemicals related to pine sawflies
Abstract : This thesis describes the stereochemistry and charactericsof ()-1,6-germacradien-5-ol, isolated from the larvaldefence substance of the pine sawflyNeodiprion sertiferand from the needles of Scots pine,Pinus sylvestris. The conformational behaviour of thissesquiterpene alcohol was investigated by molecular mechanicsstudies (MM2) and NMR. READ MORE

12. Clinical and experimental studies in Philadelphia chromosome negative chronic myeloproliferative disorders
Abstract : The present thesis deals with various aspects on the (a) epidemiology, (b) diagnosis, and (c) molecular biology in Philadelphia chromosome negative (Ph-) chronic myeloproliferative disorders (MPD). First, the incidence of the three Ph- MPD, polycythaemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythaemia (ET) and idiopathic myelofibrosis (IMF) was investigated in the city of Göteborg, Sweden during the years 1983-1999 (Paper I). 13. Climate Change Effects on Rainfall and Management of Urban Flooding
Abstract : Flooding in urban basins is intensifying due to increasing urbanization and climate change and variability. This thesis presents how the effects of climate change and high-intensive rainfall on the urban drainage system and management of flooding in urban areas of were studied in Mumbai, India and Southern Sweden, including Skåne and Gothenburg. 14. Lipase catalysed reactions of terpenoids : formation of hemiacetal esters : resolution of cryptone and its transformation to cadinenes
Abstract : During attempted enzyme-catalysed resolution of sterically hindered secondary alcohols, hemiacetals and their esters were unexpectedly detected. Hemiacetal esters are reactive compounds that decompose to alcohol, aldehyde and acid under ordinary work-up conditions i.e. in contact with water, acid, or silica gel. READ MORE

15. New synthetic routes to azaspiro alkaloids : Applications to the synthesis perhydrohistrionicotoxin
Abstract : Perhydrohistrionicotoxin, 1, is related to a family of alkaloids which display pharmacologically interesting properties. The thesis deals with development of new methods for the chemical synthesis of such alkaloids, and is divided into three parts according to the different approaches. READ MORE
