  1. 1. Factors influencing emission fluxes and bacterial enrichment in sea spray aerosols : Insights from laboratory and field studies

    Author : Julika Zinke; Matthew E. Salter; Paul Zieger; Rachel A. Foster; E. Douglas Nilsson; Patricia K. Quinn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sea spray aerosols; eddy covariance fluxes; air-sea-exchange; bacteria; primary biological airborne particles; laboratory studies; field studies; Baltic Sea; North-Eastern Atlantic; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Sea spray aerosol (SSA) is one of the major natural aerosol sources and is produced when wave breaking entrains air into ocean surface water, which subsequently breaks up into bubbles. These bubbles rise to the surface and can scavenge biogenic material. READ MORE

  2. 2. Science-policy interaction in the governance of complex socio-ecological risks : The case of chemicals management in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Oksana Udovyk; Michael Gilek; Johan Hedrén; Sivlio Funtowicz; Södertörns högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Risk; Uncertainty; MSFD; HELCOM; REACH; post-normal science; precautionary; participation; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I examine knowledge production and science-policy interaction associated with the management of chemical substances in the Baltic Sea under conditions of uncertainty and complexity. The thesis is primarily based on a qualitative analysis of policy documents and reports produced by the European Union (EU), the Helsinki Commission, the Swedish Chemicals Agency, and Gothenburg municipality, as well as 30 semi-structured interviews with scientific experts, policy makers, and government officials with knowledge and working experience in the relevant policy arenas. 3. 3. Iodine Isotopes and their Species in Surface Water from the North Sea to the Northeastern Atlantic Ocean

    Author : Peng He; Ala Aldahan; Per Roos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; iodine isotopes; 129I; 127I; oceans; North Sea; speciation; Atlantic Ocean; English Channel; Celtic Sea; AMS; iodine chemistry; geochemistry; Earth Science with specialization in Environmental Analysis; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys;

    Abstract : Huge amounts of anthropogenic 129I have been and still are released to the environment through liquid and gaseous discharges from the nuclear fuel reprocessing facilities worldwide and in particular the ones in Europe. Most of this 129I signal has been accumulated in the marine environment which plays a major role in the iodine natural pool. READ MORE

  4. 4. Eel migration - results from tagging studies with relevance to management

    Abstract : Land use change constitutes a primary driving force in shaping social-ecological systems world wide, and its effects reach far beyond the directly impacted areas. Graph based landscape ecological tools have become established as a promising way to efficiently explore and analyze the complex, spatial systems dynamics of ecological networks in physical landscapes.
