  1. 11. New approaches to moisture determination in complex matrices based on the Karl Fischer Reaction in methanolic and non-alcoholic media

    Author : William Larsson; Anders Cedergren; Heinz-Dieter Isengard; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Karl Fischer titration; non-alcoholic reagent; trace moisture determination.; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Vattenhaltsbestämning är av stor vikt i många sammanhang. T.ex. kan vattenhalten påverka utbytet av en kemisk syntes, eller ha negativ inverkan på hållbarheten av läkemedel och livsmedel. READ MORE

  2. 12. Simplified Routines for Sample Preparation and Analysis of Chemical Warfare Agent Degradation Products

    Author : Raja Subramaniam; Calle Nilsson; Paula Vanninen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nerve agents; Alkyl alkylphosphonic acids; Solid phase derivatization; Fluorinated diazomethane reagent; High-energy collision induced dissociation; CID MS MS library; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : The thesis describes the development of new and improved methods for analyzing degradation markers from organophosphorus Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs). Paper I and II describes an innovative and significantly improved method for the enrichment, derivatization (trimethysilylation) and GC-MS analysis of a broad range of organophosphorus CWAs degradation markers, namely the alkylphosphonic acids and a zwitterionic compound. 3. 13. Iron Carbonyl Mediated Parallel Synthesis

    Author : Henrik Gradén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dienyl; scavenger; solid phase; galectin inhibitor; oseltamivir; iron carbonyl complex; polymer bound reagent; cation; linker; parallel synthesis; active ester;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the examination and development of cationic iron carbonyl complexes for use in parallel synthesis both in solution phase and on solid phase. A solution phase methodology for carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom formation, utilizing polymer bound reagents and scavengers and amenable for automation has been successfully developed. READ MORE

  4. 14. Analysis of PAHs and their transformations products in contaminated soil and remedial processes

    Author : Staffan Lundstedt; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs; degredation; transformation; formation; accumulation; oxidation products; metabolites; oxogenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; oxy-PAHs; soil; gasworks; remediation; bioremediation; bioslurry; wood-rotting fungi; Fenton´s reagent; avaliability; bioavaliability; chemical analysis; extraction; pressurized liquid extraction; PLE; accelerated solvent extraction; ASE; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Soil that is heavily contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is often found at the sites of former gasworks and wood-impregnation plants. Since PAHs are toxic these sites represent a hazard to human health and the environment, and therefore they need to be treated, preferably by a method that destroys the contaminants, and thus eliminates the problem permanently. 5. 15. Influence of acid hydrogen peroxide treatment on refining energy and TMP properties

    Author : Karin Walter; Per Engstrand; Magnus Paulsson; Lennart Salmén; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TMP; Black Spruce; Energy reduction; Hydrogen peroxide; Ferrous sulphate; Refining; Inter-stage treatment; Pulp and paper properties; Fenton´s reagent; Bleaching; Sodium dithionite; Brightness; Metals; Fibre dimensions; Cross-sectional dimensions; Chemical composition; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : The potential of using acid hydrogen peroxide under Fenton conditions to lower the electrical energy consumed during the production of Black spruce (Picea mariana) thermomechanical pulp (TMP) was investigated. The chemical system, which consisted of ferrous sulphate, hydrogen peroxide and optionally an enhancer (3,4-dimethoxybenzyl alcohol, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or oxalic acid/sodium oxalate), was evaluated as an inter-stage treatment where the primary refiner was used as a mixer.
