  1. 1. Dispersion Engineering : Negative Refraction and Designed Surface Plasmons in Periodic Structures

    Author : Zhichao Ruan; Min Qiu; Henri Benisty; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; photonic crystal; dispersion property; negative refraction; surface plasmon polariton; designed surface plasmon; negative index material; layer-KKR method; finite-difference time-domain method; plane wave method; subwavelength imaging; open cavity; enhanced transmission; slowing light; Photonics; Fotonik;

    Abstract : The dispersion property of periodic structures is a hot research topic in the last decade. By exploiting dispersion properties, one can manipulate the propagation of electromagnetic waves, and produce effects that do not exist in conventional materials. READ MORE

  2. 2. Glaucoma Characteristics and Risk Factors - Results from Malmö Eye Survey

    Author : Kirsti Grødum; Oftalmologi (Malmö); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vascular disease; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi; myopia; optic disc hemorrhages; mortality; refraction; glaucoma; population screening;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on data from a large glaucoma screening, comprising 32, 918 elderly citizens of Malmö and data from retrospective analysis of glaucoma patients’ charts from the Eye Department of Malmö University Hospital. The definition of glaucoma was based on reproducible visual field defects and/or glaucomatous optic nerve head damage in both groups. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ophthalmological follow-up in young adults born premature and screened for retinopathy of prematurity

    Author : Dýrleif Pétursdóttir; Eva Larsson; Gerd Holmström; Marita Andersson Grönlund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long-term follow-up; prematurity; refraction; retinopathy of prematurity; strabismus; visual function; visual-motor integration; young adults; Ophtalmology; Oftalmiatrik;

    Abstract : Prematurely born children have a higher risk of ophthalmological and neurodevelopmental disorders than those born at term. There is a paucity of long-term prospective follow-up studies on the visual function of prematurely born adults. READ MORE

  4. 4. Wind Turbine Sound Propagation in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer

    Author : Olof Öhlund; Conny Larsson; Anna Sjöblom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wind turbine sound; atmospheric effects; outdoor sound propagation; refraction;

    Abstract : Wind turbines have grown both in size and number in the past decades. The taller turbines has made it possible to place them in forest areas which is fortunate for a country like Sweden with lots of forest. An issue with wind turbines is the sound they produce. The sound mainly comes from the rotor blades when they pass through the air. READ MORE

  5. 5. Short- and Long-Term Follow-Up of Ophthalmological Findings in Preterm Infants and Children

    Author : Eva Larsson; Gerd Holmström; Kristina Tornqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; prematurity; follow-up; retinopathy of prematurity; ROP; infants; children; incidence; screening; refraction; visual acuity; visual fields; Oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : In a prospective population-based study in Stockholm County, 1998-2000, the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) was investigated and was found to be 36% in prematurely-born infants with a birth weight of ≤ 1500 grams. Compared to a study performed ten years ago, the overall incidence was unchanged, but was reduced in “mature” infants and increased in immature ones. READ MORE
