  1. 6. Morphologican and functional studies on the Drosophila neuromuscular system during postembryonic stages

    Author : Ana Beramendi; Rafael Cantera; Prof. Carlos Dotti; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Drosophila; neuromuscular system; Rel-proteins; fly brain; rhythmic morphology; aging; ; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Abstract : The nervous system of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster has emerged as an excellent model for fundamental neuroscience as well as for biomedical research of human neurological diseases. In this thesis, two aspects of the neuromuscular system have been investigated: the role of the IkB-protein Cactus in the larval neuromuscular junction and the morphology of motor terminals throughout adult life. 2. 7. Regulation of antimicrobial peptide gene expression in Drosophila melanogaster : Involvement of POU and NF-kB/Rel factors in innate immunity

    Author : Anna Junell; Ylva Engström; Jean-Luc Imler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, has a well-developed immune response, and microbial assault induces a rapid production of potent antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). The aim of this thesis work was to gain deeper knowledge of the regulation of AMPs in Drosophila, by the isolation and characterization of transcription factors involved in AMP gene expression. 3. 8. NF-kB in epidermal signal transduction and tumor development

    Author : Max van Hogerlinden; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The transcription factor NF-kappaB has been extensively studied since its discovery. NFkappaB has been shown to be invoved in many cellular processes in many different cell types. However, its functions in skin physiology and epidermal tumor development are largely unknown. READ MORE

  4. 9. Regulation of NF-κB by Calmodulin

    Author : Åsa Antonsson; Thomas Grundström; Ylva Engström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; NF-κB; calmodulin; transcription; calcium; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Cells experience numerous external signals which they must respond to. Such signals arriving at the cell surface are transduced via various signal transduction pathways and often ultimately result in regulation of transcription. READ MORE

  5. 10. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma - proteomic and metabolomic studies on prognosis and treatment failure

    Author : Martin Stenson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; DLBCL; prognostics; proteomics; metabolomics;

    Abstract : Abstract Background and aim: Every year almost 600 patients in Sweden are diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), the most common lymphoma, and with immunochemotherapy, approximately 60 % are cured. Yet, for patients with primary refractory disease or early relapse, the prognosis is very poor. READ MORE
