  1. 1. Effective Charges Near 56Ni and Production of Anti-Nuclei Studied with Heavy-Ion Reactions

    Author : Rickard du Rietz; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RDDS; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; PHENIX; RHIC; mirror nuclei; shell-model calculations; fusion-evaporation reactions; effective charges; anti-deuteron; Heavy-ion reactions; Fysicumarkivet A:000;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the research performed within two different research groups using heavy-ion induced nuclear reactions. They offer the opportunity to investigate different properties of nuclear matter. The results are based on measurements using a variety of different experimental techniques. READ MORE

  2. 2. Net-Charge Fluctuations in Ultra-Relativistic Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions

    Author : Henrik Tydesjö; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quark-Gluon Plasma; Net-Charge Fluctuations; Pad Chamber; högenergi; Kosmisk strålning; High energy interactions; cosmic rays; PHENIX; Heavy-Ion Collisions; RHIC; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Tydesjö;

    Abstract : PHENIX is one of four experiments at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider, RHIC. The high-energy heavy-ion collisions provided by this accelerator offer the possibility to study nuclear matter at high temperature and density. The high multiplicity of particles produced in these collisions puts high demands on detector performance. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aspects of Hadron Production in High-Energy Heavy-Ion Physics

    Author : David Silvermyr; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RHIC; pad readout; electronic; chip-on-board; tracking; heavy-ion collisions; freeze-out temperature; delta resonance; SPS; WA98; PHENIX; Fysik; coherent peripheral; multiplicity; Physics; Fysicumarkivet A:2001:Silvermyr;

    Abstract : High-energy heavy-ion collisions provide a unique tool for the study of nuclear matter as a function of temperature and density. WA98 at the CERN SPS recorded data with a 158 A GeV Pb beam on a Pb target in 1996. To cope with the high charged-particle density, a tracking system based on high granularity multi-step avalanche detectors was developed. READ MORE

  4. 4. A Study of Number-Ratio Fluctuations in Gold-Gold Interactions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV

    Author : Eva Haslum; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fluctuations; Heavy-Ion Collisions; PHENIX; RHIC;

    Abstract : The properties of the basic building blocks of nuclear matter, the quarks, and their interactions are not known in detail, largely because observations are complicated by the confinement of quarks in composite particles. New insights can be gained from the study of nuclear matter in a deconfined phase, like the form of matter that the Universe consited of early in its evolution according to the Big Bang theory. 5. 5. Experimental studies of particle production in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions

    Author : Pål Nilsson; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pad chambers; PHENIX; WA98; phi-meson; tracking; single particle spectra; heavy-ion collisions; inverse slope parameters; particle production; RHIC; charged particle multiplicity; pad readout; SPS; Physics; Fysik; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2001:Nilsson;

    Abstract : This thesis is about high energy heavy ion physics. Two major experiments, the WA98 at CERN and the PHENIX at Brookhaven National Laboratory, are described. Results from data analysis from both experiments are presented. The WA98 chapter presents particle identification methods and phi-meson measurements. READ MORE
