11. Fuel-efficient driving strategies
Abstract : This thesis is concerned with fuel-efficient driving strategies for vehicles driving on roads with varying topography, as well as estimation of road grade and vehicle mass for vehicles utilizing such strategies. A framework referred to as speed profile optimization (SPO), is introduced for reducing the fuel or energy consumption of single vehicles (equipped with either combustion or electric engines) and platoons of several vehicles. 12. Single fibre laser Doppler flowmetry for skeletal muscle perfusion measurements : methodological developments and clinical applications
Abstract : Measurements of microvascular blood flow in skeletal muscle by using the laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) technique were first reported in 1979. The introduction of the single fibre technique in 1987 increased the possibilities of studying muscle perfusion under various physiological conditions without causing major tissue trauma. READ MORE

13. Morphological and electromyographical studies of trapezius myalgia in cleaners
Abstract : Pathomechanisms of work-related myalgia are poorly understood. Myalgia is caused by exitation of nociceptors present in the muscular tissue but not in the muscle fibres themselves. Morphological analysis can contribute to knowledge of excitation of nociceptors. Surface EMG is a widely used method in the research field of ergonomics. READ MORE

14. Voltage Sags: Single event characterisation, system performance and source location
Abstract : This thesis deals with one of the most important disturbances that affect the quality of the electrical supply. Voltage sags cause industrial processes malfunction, producing an enormous economical impact. A voltage sag is defined as a short duration reduction of the rms voltage. READ MORE

15. Global Navigation Satellite Systems: Applications With Time Scales From Seconds to Decades
Abstract : Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) can be used formany applications with time scales varying from seconds to decades. For~example, due to the ability of high-rate sampling, GNSStechniques are suitable for the detection of the large co-seismicdisplacements, which are dominated by low-frequency signals andtherefore can be recorded at a few Hertz and estimated with rathersmall uncertainty (millimetres).
