1. Versatile and Antique World of RNA : The Simplicity of RNA Mediated Catalysis
Abstract : RNA is the only biological molecule that can function both as a repository of information and as a catalyst. This, together with the ability to self-replicate, led to recognition of RNA as ‘prelude to life’.My work highlights some of the important features of RNA as a catalyst, exemplified by RNase P. 2. iLocks: a novel tool for RNA assays with improved specificity
Abstract : The Central Dogma of molecular biology describes a framework for how genetic information is transferred in cells, placing RNA as a messenger between DNA and translated proteins. During the last years, interest in RNA research has grown tremendously due to the increasing understanding and recognition of the importance of RNA in regulation of gene expression, biochemical catalysis, and genome integrity surveillance. 3. Distal to Proximal—Functional Coupling in RNase P RNA-mediated Catalysis
Abstract : RNase P is a ubiquitous ribonuclease responsible for removing the 5’ leader of tRNA precursor. Bacterial RNase P contains one RNA (RPR) and one protein (RPP) subunit. However, the number of protein variants depends on the origin. The RNA subunit is the catalytic subunit that in vitro cleaves its substrate with and without the protein subunit. READ MORE

4. Computational Protein Evolution : Modeling the Selectivity and Promiscuity of Engineered Enzymes
Abstract : Enzymes are biological catalysts that significantly increase the rate of all biochemical reactions that take place within cells and are essential to maintain life. Many questions regarding their function remain unknown. READ MORE

5. Quantum Chemical Modeling of Phosphoesterase Mimics and Chemistry in Confined Spaces
Abstract : In this thesis, density functional theory is employed in the study of two kinds of systems that can be considered to be biomimetic in their own ways. First, three binuclear metal complexes, synthesized by the group of Prof. Ebbe Nordlander, have been investigated. READ MORE
