  1. 1. Non-protein-coding RNA : Transcription and regulation of ribosomal RNA

    Author : Stefanie Böhm; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Brian McStay; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ribosomal RNA; non-coding RNA; ribosomal genes; rDNA gene; B-WICH; chromatin remodelling; histone modification; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Cell growth and proliferation are processes in the cell that must be tightly regulated. Transcription of ribosomal RNA and ribosomal biogenesis are directly linked to cell growth and proliferation, since the ribosomal RNA encodes for the majority of transcription in a cell and ribosomal biogenesis influences directly the number of proteins that are synthesized. 2. 2. RNA Polymerase I regulation by chromatin remodelling

    Author : Yuan Guo; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Marikki Laiho; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RNA Pol I; ribosome genes; chromatin remodelling; WSTF; CHD4; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Cell proliferation and growth is correlated with effective protein synthesis and ribosome biogenesis. The transcription of the 47S pre-ribosomal RNA by RNA Polymerase I (RNA Pol I) machinery is the rate-limiting step of ribosome biogenesis and can accounts for more than 50% of total cellular transcription. 3. 3. Chromatin remodelling in Pol I and III transcription

    Author : Erica Cavellán; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Gernot Längst; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Compaction of chromosomes in the eukaryotic cell is due to interactions between DNA and proteins and interactions between proteins. These two types of interaction form a dynamic structure, known as "chromatin". The condensation of chromatin must be carefully regulated, since the structure is an obstacle for factors that need access to the DNA. READ MORE

  4. 4. RNA polymerase I inhibition : mechanism and exploitation in cancer treatment

    Author : Asimina Zisi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cancer is an umbrella term for diseases characterized by uncontrollably proliferating abnormal cells that often have also gained the ability to spread and invade other tissues. It is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and the second-leading cause of death in Sweden. READ MORE

  5. 5. Regulation of RNA polymerase I and RNA polymerase III transcription by the chromatin remodelling complex B-WICH

    Author : Fatemeh Sadeghifar; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Magdalena Boguta; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; B-WICH; Chromatin remodelling; ribosomal genes; transcription; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Ribosomal biogenesis is an important process which determines the rate of cell growth and is involved in cell response to proliferation, differentiation, cellular nutritional state and stress. The chromatin remodelling complex B-WICH composed of WSTF, SNF2h and NM1 is involved in transcription by the RNA pol I and RNA pol III. READ MORE
