  1. 1. Iron, Manganese and Iridium Complexes From Models of RNR and Catalase to Water Oxidation

    Author : Michele Bedin; Anders Dr. Thapper; Sascha Prof. Ott; Vadim G. Kessler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Iron; manganese; MnCAT; RNR; biomimetic; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis has been synthesise and study metal complexes that mimic the structure and function of the active site in two particular metalloenzymes, ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) and manganese catalase (MnCAT). These two metalloenzymes both have two transition metals ions in the cofactor: two manganese ions in MnCAT and either two iron, iron-manganese or two manganese ions in RNR. READ MORE

  2. 2. Pathology of dNTP dysregulation

    Author : Phong Tran; Andrei Chabes; Erik Johansson; Ola Hammarsten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : dNTP metabolism; DNA replication; mutation rate; cancer; heart development; RNR; SAMHD1; Rrm1; Samhd1; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates (dNTPs) are precursors for DNA replication and repair. Mammalian cells have two distinct biosynthesis pathways to supply dNTPs: de novo and salvage pathways. READ MORE

  3. 3. Targeting the nucleotide metabolism of the mammalian pathogen Trypanosoma brucei

    Author : Munender Vodnala; Anders Hofer; Arne Holmgren; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Trypanosoma brucei; adenosine kinase; thymidine kinase; methylthioadenosine phosphorylase; mouser ribonucleotide reductase; E. coli ribonucleotide reductase; RNR; Ara-A; F-Ara-A; dNTP; NTP; doexynucleotide metabolism; nucleosides; nucleoside kinases; allosteric regulation; biologisk kemi; biological chemistry;

    Abstract : Trypanosoma brucei causes African sleeping sickness in humans and Nagana in cattle. There are no vaccines available against the disease and the current treatment is also not satisfactory because of inefficacy and numerous side effects of the used drugs.T. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biophysical studies of cell-penetrating peptides and of the RNR inhibitor Sml1

    Author : Elsa Bárány-Wallje; Astrid Gräslund; Joachim Seelig; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cell-penetrating peptides; transportan; bicelles; Sml1; Biophysics; Biofysik; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : Several short peptides, so called cell-penetrating peptides, have the capability to transport large hydrophilic cargos through the cell membrane. The objective is to use these peptides as drug carriers and thereby enhance the uptake of drugs into cells.Three different cell-penetrating peptides are characterized in this thesis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Electron paramagnetic resonance and biochemical studies of red-ox properties of the diferric/radical center in mouse and Mycobacterium tuberculosis ribonucleotide reductase R2 proteins

    Author : Albert Davydov; Marc Fontecave; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : Ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) catalyses the reduction of all four ribonucleotides to the corresponding deoxyribonucleotides that are used by the cells for DNA synthesis. The active enzyme from mouse, Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) and aerobically grown E. READ MORE
