  1. 1. HIV-1 reverse transcriptase activity assays based on monoclonal antibodies to native enzyme : Applications on studies of antiviral substances and immunological variation of reverse transcriptase

    Author : Ann-Sofie Rytting; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; HIV-1; reverse transcriptase; monoclonal antibody; activity assay; subtype; RT inhibitor; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Specific detection of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) activity in crude materials was enhanced using a capture assay for immunopurification and subsequent activity assay. The purification step was achieved by anti-HIV-1 RT monoclonal antibodies (Mabs) immobilized onto a solid carrier. READ MORE

  2. 2. Structure-aided design of antiviral drugs : Application of the method on HIV-1 protease and SIV reverse transcriptase

    Author : Hans Ola Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; HIV; protease; SIV; reverse transcriptase; structure; inhibitor; drug design; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Many efforts have been made to control the AIDS epidemic. Extensive studies have been done on the biology, biochemistry, and structural biology of HIV in the search for antiviral drugs. The viral-encoded enzymes reverse transcriptase and protease have been main targets for drug design. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on a serine peptidase inhibitor locus on human chromosome 20 Characterization of novel genes encoding proteins with WFDC and kunitz domains

    Author : Adam Clauss; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; kunitz; Protase inhibitor; WFDC;

    Abstract : An unlimited number of proteolytic reactions are carried out by enzymes in biological systems. These enzymes are a necessity of life, but they can also be dangerous if they are not controlled. READ MORE

  4. 4. Early assessment of efficacy and safety of novel anticoagulants as exemplified by direct thrombin inhibitors. Non-clinical pharmacodynamic studies in vitro and in vivo

    Author : Margareta Elg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; animals; antidote; bleeding; inhibition constant; inogatran; association rate constant; melagatran; thrombin inhibitor; thrombosis; fibrinolysis;

    Abstract : The drawbacks of today's anticoagulants are parenteral use (heparins), a narrow interval between efficacy and bleeding, and the high variability of effect with a consequent need for frequent monitoring (coumarins). The aim of the current studies was to evaluate properties important for efficacy and safety of novel anticoagulants, as exemplified by direct thrombin inhibitors, with non-clinical methods. 5. 5. Matrix metalloproteinases in natural killer cells. Expression of MMPs, IL-2 activation and killer cell interactions with Matrigel® and model tumours

    Author : Per Albertsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Protease; matrix metalloproteinase; killer cell; IL-2; Matrigel; B16 melanoma; tumour infiltration; invasion assay; zymography; Western blot; RT-PCR; light microscopy; fluorescence; electron microscopy;

    Abstract : Introduction: IL-2 activated natural killer (A-NK) cells can recognize malignant cells and exert tumouricidal activities by multiple mechanisms that require close contact with the target cells. Upon adoptive transfer, some A-NK cells accumulate in tumours by migrating from the vascular bed to a position inside the malignant tissue, forming close contacts with target cells. READ MORE
