  1. 1. Biophysical studies of DNA binding – by the large filament-forming protein Rad51 and the small minor-groove binder Hoechst 33258

    Author : Louise Fornander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rad51; Linear Dichroism; DNA; Isothermal Titration Calorimetry.; Spectroscopy; Nanofluidics; Hoechst 33258; DNA-binding ligands;

    Abstract : Mechanistic insight into the nature of DNA-binding ligands is crucial for both drug development as well as understanding more complex biological reactions that take place in the cell. In this Thesis, two rather different DNA-binding molecules are considered: 1. READ MORE

  2. 2. Aspects of DNA Strand Exchange: Recombination Proteins and Model System Studies

    Author : Karolin Frykholm; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA strand exchange; cationic liposome; Rad51; Site-Specific Linear Dichroism; RecA; molecular crowding;

    Abstract : DNA recombination is of fundamental importance to all living cells; it is part of the DNA repair machinery and a means to generate genetic diversity. DNA strand exchange, the exchange of strands between homologous DNA molecules, is the central reaction of the recombination process. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cellular Origin and Development of Glioma

    Author : Nanna Lindberg; Lene Uhrbom; Bengt Westermark; Kristian Pietras; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioma; brain tumor; PDGF; RCAS TV-A; cell of origin; glial cell; oligodendrocyte progenitor cell; DNA repair; homology-directed repair; RAD51; angiogenesis; histidine-rich glycoprotein; Morphology; cell biology; pathology; Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi; Molecular Medicine; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ;

    Abstract : Gliomas are the most common primary tumors of the central nervous system believed to arise from glial cells. Invasive growth and inherent propensity for malignant progression make gliomas incurable despite extensive treatment. READ MORE

  4. 4. Identification of novel BRCA2-binding proteins that are essential for meiotic homologous recombination

    Author : Jingjing Zhang; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; meiosis; DSB; cancer; BRCA2; MEILB2; BRME1; HR; RAD51; DMC1; DDR;

    Abstract : Meiotic recombination is a molecular process in which the induction and repair of programmed DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) creates genetic exchange between homologous chromosomes and thus increases genetic diversity and ensures chromosome segregation. Breast cancer susceptibility gene 2 (BRCA2) is a potent cancer suppressor and is required for DSB repair by homologous recombination (HR) in mitosis. READ MORE

  5. 5. The maintenance of telomeres in the budding yeast Naumovozyma castellii

    Author : Humberto Itriago; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Telomere; Telomere dynamics; Telomere-Binding Proteins; Cdc13; Rap1; RAD52; Rad51; Homologous recombination; ALT; Budding yeast; Naumovozyma castellii;

    Abstract : Linear chromosomes of eukaryotic cells require the presence of functional nucleoprotein terminal structures, known as telomeres, to protect the integrity of the genome. The telomere is a highly dynamic and regulated structure constituted by short tandem DNA repeats rich in guanine nucleotides that extent as double-stranded DNA ending in a single-stranded 3′ overhang.
