11. Reliability Evaluation of Distribution ArchitecturesConsidering Failure Modes and Correlated Events
Abstract : Power systems are in a phase of automation where intelligent components and sub-systems are employed to monitor, control and manage the grid. Quantifying the complex consequences on system reliability, from the integration of such automated and semi-automated equipment into the existing grid is important for maintenance optimisation and fault mitigation. 12. Aero Engine Intercooling
Abstract : Intercooling has the potential to provide a shortcut to the next generation aero engines with higher bypass ratio (BPR), higher overall pressure ratio (OPR) and higher turbine inlet temperature (TIT) by lowering the high pressure compressor (HPC) delivery temperature. To be able to establish a systematic understanding of aero engine intercooling, the heat transfer and pressure loss characteristics of a given intercooler architecture need to be known in the parameter range anticipated for the engine optimization. 13. Electrochemical and ion transport characterisation of a nanoporous carbon derived from SiC
Abstract : In this doctoral project, a relatively new form of carbon material, with unique narrow pore size distribution around 7 Å and with uniform structure, has been electrochemically characterised using the single particle microelectrode technique. The carbon has been used as electrode material for supercapacitors. READ MORE

14. Nuclear receptor functions in the central nervous system : clues from knockout mice
Abstract : The nuclear receptor (NR) superfamily is the largest known family of transcription factors in eukaryotes. In the 1980 s when the size of the NR family and the scope of the functions of its members were being discovered, tissue distribution studies revealed that the mRNAs of many of these receptors were expressed in the central nervous system. 15. A Photometric Study of the Galactic Disks based on Strömgren Photometry
Abstract : One of the key questions in todays galaxy research is the formation and evolution of disk galaxies such as the Milky Way. Using observations in the intermediate band Stromgren uvby filter system we have investigated how both density and metallicity varies within the Galactic disks in order to learn more about the Galaxy and its past.
