  1. 1. Radiation response in human cells : DNA damage formation, repair and signaling

    Author : Ann-Sofie Gustafsson; Bo Stenerlöw; Andrzej Wojcik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA damage; DNA repair; DSB; NHEJ; DNA-PK; ionizing radiation; heat-labile sites; Biomedical Radiation Science; Biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Ionizing radiation induces a range of different DNA lesions. In terms of mutation frequency and mammalian cell survival, the most critical of these lesions is the DNA double-strand break (DSB). DSB left unrepaired or mis-repaired may result in chromosomal aberrations that can lead to permanent genetic changes or cell death. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cellular effects of ionizing radiation : Relevant for understanding cancer risk after medical and environmental radiation exposures

    Author : Pamela Chiaka Akuwudike; Andrzej Wojcik; Lovisa Lundholm; Kerstin Borgmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation; DNA damage; radiation-induced carcinogenesis; second primary cancer; cisplatin chemoradiotherapy; dose fractionation; low dose; low dose rate; dose and dose rate effectiveness factor DDREF ; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Radiation-induced cancers are stochastic and delayed effects of exposure to ionizing radiation. The dose-response relationship for radiation-induced cancers at both low dose/low dose rates and high doses (doses encountered during radiotherapy) remains unclear. READ MORE

  3. 3. Colorectal cancer and radiation response : The role of EGFR, AKT and cancer stem cell markers

    Author : Sara Häggblad Sahlberg; Bo Stenerlöw; Bengt Glimelius; Marika Nestor; Torgny Stigbrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; radiation; AKT; EGFR; cancer stem cells; CD133; CD44; Biomedical Radiation Science; Biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology;

    Abstract : The primary treatment for colorectal cancer is surgery. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy, sometimes combined, are also frequently used to diminish recurrence risk. In response to radiation exposure, several cellular signaling cascades are activated to repair DNA breaks, prevent apoptosis and to keep the cells proliferating. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ionising radiation and DNA double strand breaks in human cells : formation, intracellular protection and consequences

    Author : Jonas Nygren; Stockholms universitet; []

  5. 5. Optimizing experimental radioimmunotherapy : investigating the different mechanisms behind radiation induced cell deaths

    Author : Theres Lindgren; David Eriksson; Torgny Stigbrand; Bo Stenerlöw; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mitotic catastrophe; senescence; cell cycle checkpoint; apoptosis; radiation; gene expression; p53; immunologi; Immunology; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : Background. Radiation therapy is an important treatment regimen for malignant disease. Radiation therapy uses ionizing radiation to induce DNA damage in tumor cells in order to kill them. READ MORE
