  1. 16. Modeling the Zeeman Effect in Planetary Radiative Transfer and Applications

    Author : Richard Larsson; Juan R. Pardo; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmosfärsvetenskap; Atmospheric Science;

    Abstract : Remote sensing is about retrieving distant physical properties from locally observed radiation. The first step to remote sensing is to describe, or model, the radiative transfer. READ MORE

  2. 17. Mathematical Modelling of Light Scattering in Paper and Print

    Author : Per Edström; Mårten Gulliksson; Inge Söderkvist; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mathematical modeling; radiative transfer; solution method; numerical stability; speed; light scattering; light absorption; Kubelka-Munk; errors; reflectance calculations; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : A problem formulation and a solution method are outlined for the radiative transfer problem in vertically inhomogeneous scattering and absorbing media, using discrete ordinate model geometry. The treatment spans from the physical problem via a continuous formulation, a discretization and a numerical analysis, to an implementation with performance evaluation and application to real-world problems. 3. 18. Mathematical modeling and numerical tools for simulation and design of light scattering in paper and print

    Author : Per Edström; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mathematical modeling; radiative transfer; integro-differential equations; inverse problems; parameter estimation; solution method; numerical performance; light scattering; paper industry applications; Kubelka-Munk; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : This work starts with a real industrial problem - the perceived need for a moredetailed and more accurate model for light scattering in paper and print than theKubelka‐Munk model of today. A careful analysis transfers this problem into aphysical description of the phenomena involved. READ MORE

  4. 19. Non-Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium Spectral Modelling of Kilonovae

    Author : Quentin Pognan; Anders Jerkstrand; Kyohei Kawaguchi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transients: Neutron Star Mergers; Radiative Transfer; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : The astrophysical origin of rapid neutron capture (r-process) elements has long remained a puzzle and been the object of scientific debate. Neutron star (NS) mergers have historically been suggested as an ideal site for the creation of these elements, and were propelled into focus following the detection of the first binary neutron star (BNS) merger in 2017. 5. 20. Thermophysical Modelling and Mechanical Stability of Cometary Nuclei

    Author : Björn Davidsson; Dina Prialnik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Comets; Tidal physics; Light scattering; Radiative transfer; Thermophysics; Gas kinetics; Non-gravitational forces; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; Theoretical Astrophysics; teoretisk astrofysik;

    Abstract : Comets are the most primordial and least evolved bodies in the Solar System. As such, they are unique sources of information regarding the early history of the Solar System. However, little is known about cometary nuclei since they are very difficult to observe due to the obscuring coma. READ MORE
