  1. 1. Impact of Tissue Characteristics on Radio-Frequency Lesioning and Navigation in the Brain : Simulation, experimental and clinical studies

    Author : Johannes Johansson; Karin Wårdell; Hans von Holst; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Brain; Radio frequency ablation; Finite element method; Monte Carlo simulation; light reflectance; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning;

    Abstract : Radio-Frequency (RF) lesioning, or RF ablation, is a method that uses high frequency currents for thermal coagulation of pathological tissue or signal pathways. The current is delivered from an electrode, which also contains a temperature sensor permitting control of the current at a desired target temperature. In the brain, RF lesioning can e.g. READ MORE

  2. 2. Thermocoagulation in Deep Brain Structures : Modelling, simulation and experimental study of radio-frequency lesioning

  3. 3. New techniques in liver surgery

    Author : Ulf Jersenius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The development of liver surgery has a long history and through the years, much knowledge has been gathered concerning various aspects of the liver. The exploration and understanding of liver anatomy and liver regeneration and development of surgical techniques are important landmarks. READ MORE

  4. 4. Characterisation of brain electrodes for ablative neurosurgery

    Author : Ola Eriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Stereotactic ablative neurosurgery with radio frequency current is regularly performed on patients with movement disorders, for instance Parkinson's disease. Even though the technique has been used for ablation in the brain for almost 50 years, nobody has suggested a standardised way of testing the electrodes used for ablative surgery. READ MORE

  5. 5. Radiative Properties of Rare Earth Elements - Free and Bound in Crystals

    Author : Huailiang Xu; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser Spectroscopy; Upconversion; Lifetimes; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Laser technology; Laserteknik; Rare earth Elements; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Xu;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to fundamental aspects, and to spectroscopic applications of radiative properties in free atoms and ions, as well as in ions doped into crystals. Using the time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence technique, measurements of radiative lifetimes for rare earth elements have been performed in neutral Pr, Nd, Tm, and in singly ionized Sm, Er, Nd, Tm, Yb, as well as in doubly ionized Tm and Tb ions.
