  1. 1. Methods of Measuring Radioactivity in the Environment

    Author : Mats Isaksson; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; radioactivity; soil sampling; depth distribution; nuclear weapons fallout; Chernobyl; sewage sludge; deposition; Ekologi; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Isaksson; Ecology; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Cs-137;

    Abstract : In this thesis a variety of sampling methods have been utilised to assess the amount of deposited activity, mainly of Cs-137, from the Chernobyl accident and from the nuclear weapons tests. Starting with the Chernobyl accident in 1986 sampling of air and rain was used to determine the composition and amount of radioactive debris from this accident, brought to southern Sweden by the weather systems. 2. 2. Activity concentrations of radionuclides in energy production from peat, wood chips and straw

    Author : Robert Hedvall; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Radionuclides; peat; wood; chips; straw; bioenergy; biomass; district heating; emission; Cs; Physics; Chernobyl; Radioactivity; Fysik; Technological sciences; Teknik; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Hedvall;

    Abstract : In this thesis quantitative analyses of radionuclide concentrations in bioenergy fuels such as peat, wood chips and straw are presented. For comparison a brief description is included of radionuclide concentrations and radiation doses from other sources of power and also from some industrial applications. READ MORE

  4. 4. Anthropogenic Radionuclides in the Arctic Ocean: Distribution and Pathways

    Author : Dan Josefsson; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; americium; plutonium; iodine; strontium; cesium; Sellafield; Chernobyl; global fallout; currents; shelf; ocean; radioactivity; Arctic; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Abstract : Anthropogenic radionuclide concentrations have been determined in seawater and sediment samples collected in 1991, 1994 and 1996 in the Eurasian Arctic shelf and interior. Global fallout, releases from European reprocessing plants and the Chernobyl accident are identified as the three main sources. READ MORE

  5. 5. Distribution, Sources and Environmental Pathways of Radioactive 129I in Fresh and Saline Water in the Baltic Region

    Author : Abdulaziz Kekli; Ala Aldahan; Xiaolin Hou; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; 129I; iodine; environment; precipitation; river; Baltic Sea; radioactivity; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with distribution, sources and pathways of radioactive 129I (T1/2=15.6 My) in 54 rivers covering the Baltic region, precipitation (rain and snow) from southern, central and northern Sweden, and saline water from three depth profiles in the Baltic Sea and a surface water transect from the Baltic to the Kattegat.
