11. Environmental history in southern Mozambique : Reconstruction of flooding events, hydroclimate and sea-level dynamics since mid-Holocene
Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to reconstruct paleoenvironment, paleohydrology and paleoclimate in coastal southern Mozambique, with emphasis on tracing past flooding events on the lower Limpopo River floodplain. In order to extend flood chronologies beyond periods covered by instrumental data, sediments from lakes on the floodplain were studied (Lake Lungué, Coassane Oxbow, Lake Magandane and Lake Soane). 12. Palaeogenomic reconstruction of woolly mammoth evolutionary history and extinction dynamics
Abstract : Biodiversity is declining globally. Yet, the biological and genetic processes associated with these declines on a longer timescale are still poorly understood. Ancient DNA is a powerful tool to study evolution in real-time. Despite advances in the field, there is further need for refinement of laboratory and computational techniques. READ MORE

13. Population Dynamics, Diet and Migrations of the Únetice Culture in Poland
14. Vegetation history, human impact and palaeogeography of West Estonia : Pollen analytical studies of lake and bog sediments
Abstract : The history of Holocene vegetation in western Estonia and the West Estonian Archipelago is described. Early Holocene sea level changes in the area are reconstructed, and human impact on the vegetation during the Late Holocene is discussed West Estonia was divided into five study areas (Rummu-Maardu, Mustjärve, Velise-Kiilaspere, Tôstamaa Peninsula, and northern Saaremaa in the West Estonian Archipelago, from north to south). 15. Late Quaternary ice sheet history and dynamics in central and southern Scandinavia
Abstract : Recent work suggests an emerging new paradigm for the Scandinavian ice sheet (SIS); one of a dynamically fluctuating ice sheet. This doctoral research project explicitly examines the history and dynamics of the SIS at four sites within Sweden and Norway, and provides results covering different time periods of glacial history.
