  1. 1. Urinary Bladder Carcinoma – Studies of Outcome of Current Management and Experimental Therapy

    Author : Truls Gårdmark; Per-Uno Malmström; Jörgen Carlsson; Sverker Hellsten; Willem Oosterlinck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Bladder; Epidemiology; Administration; Intravesical; Radiotherapy; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : The thesis concerns the epidemiology, current and possible future treatment of urothelial cancer of the urinary bladder. The Swedish National Quality Registry for Bladder Cancer 1997-2001 was used to explore epidemiology, current therapies and outcome. More common in men, the incidence for Ta and T1 tumours peaks in the age range 70-79 years. READ MORE

  2. 2. Monte Carlo particle transport codes for ion beam therapy treatment planning : Validation, development and applications

    Author : Till Tobias Böhlen; Irena Gudowska; Oliver Jäkel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Monte Carlo; ion beam therapy; treatment planning; cancer therapy; microdosimetry; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Abstract : External radiotherapy with proton and ion beams needs accurate tools for the dosimetric characterization of treatment fields. Monte Carlo (MC) particle transport codes, such as FLUKA and GEANT4, can be a valuable method to increase accuracy of dose calculations and to support various aspects of ion beam therapy (IBT), such as treatment planning and monitoring. 3. 3. Autologous fat transplantation to the female breast after surgery and radiotherapy assessment of patient-reported outcomes, radiology and gene expression patterns

    Author : Anna Lindegren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Autologous fat transplantation (AFT) is commonly used as a complementary method to enhance breast appearance after breast surgery, radiotherapy and breast reconstruction. Some of the indications for AFT to the breast are contour irregularities, volume deficits, chronic wounds, soft tissue indurations and scarring. READ MORE

  4. 4. Diagnostic and prognostic studies in Hodgkin's lymphoma with special reference to the elderly

    Author : Ola Landgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Hodgkin s lymphoma; elderly; prognosis; diagnosis; splenectomy;

    Abstract : The introduction of modem staging procedures, and developments in both radiotherapy and chemotherapy have significantly contributed to improved response and survival rates in Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) during the last decades. However, still a substantial proportion of patients succumb from tumour progression and/or complications related to diagnostic procedures and/or treatment. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantification Methods for Clinical Studies in Nuclear Medicine - Applications in AMS, PET/CT and SPECT/CT

    Author : Marie Sydoff; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nuclear Medicine; AMS; PET CT; SPECT CT; dosimetry; internal dosimetry; quantification; activity quantification; volume delineation; radiation; biokinetics; pharmacokinetics; biodistribution;

    Abstract : An essential part of the development of new radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic nuclear medicine is the determination of its biokinetic properties. The uptake and turn-over of the radiopharmaceutical in the source organs is of great interest since this could determine whether the radiopharmaceutical would be suitable for clinical use or not.
