  1. 1. Radiotherapy in Early Breast Cancer

    Author : Fredrika Killander; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pentoxifylline; cyclophosphamide; tamoxifen; side effects; randomised trial; Breast cancer; radiotherapy;

    Abstract : Radiotherapy (RT) after mastectomy has been part of the treatment for early breast cancer since the 1940s. The treatment reduces the risk of loco-regional recurrences, but implies risk of late side effects that can begin decades after RT. READ MORE

    Abstract : Modern radiotherapy aims to treat the decease while minimizing the radiation dose to the adjacent normal tissue, to minimize acute and late effects of the treatment. The foremost technological approaches have been intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT) in combination with image guided radiotherapy (IGRT). READ MORE

  4. 4. Methods for selection and optimisation of radiotherapy and early therapy evaluation in breast cancer

    Author : Tomas Jansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Breast cancer; human; radiotherapy; multi-leaf collimator; breast-conservingsurgery; local recurrence; p53; positron emission tomography; chemotherapy evaluation; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Abstract : Adjuvant systemic therapy for breast cancer, the most common malignancy in females, increases survival and this has recently also been demonstrated for postoperative radiotherapy. The aims of this study were to develop an optimised radiotherapeutic technique for postoperative treatment, to analyse the association between p53 status in node-negative patients and radiotherapy, to investigate the incidence of in-breast relapses after conservative surgery and radiotherapy and to determine if positron emissiontomography could be useful for early evaluation of polychemotherapy. 5. 5. Cardiovascular Side Effects of Radiotherapy in Breast Cancer

    Author : Greger Nilsson; Carl Blomqvist; Lars Holmberg; Anne Hansen Ree; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast Cancer; Radiotherapy; Cardiovascular; Stroke; Coronary artery stenosis; Coronary artery disease; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to study cardiovascular side effects of radiotherapy (RT) in breast cancer (BC).In a study base of 25,171 women with BC diagnosed 1970-2000, we found a statistically significant 12% increase of stroke, compared to the stroke incidence in the background population.
