  1. 1. The Use of Press Archives in the Temporal and Spatial Analysis of Rainfall-Induced Landslides in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, 1980-2005

    Author : Elias Garcia-Urquia; Kristofer Gamstedt; José Cepeda; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; press archives; landslide database; urban landslides; critical rainfall intensity; antecedent rainfall; rainfall frequency contour lines; matrix method; landslide susceptibility index; Tegucigalpa; Honduras; Hurricane Mitch; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys; Earth Science with specialization in Environmental Analysis;

    Abstract : The scarcity of data poses a challenging obstacle for the study of natural disasters, especially in developing countries where the social vulnerability plays as important a role as the physical vulnerability.  The work presented in this thesis is oriented towards the demonstration of the usefulness of press archives as a data source for the temporal and spatial analysis of landslides in Tegucigalpa, Honduras for the period between 1980 and 2005. 2. 2. Climate Change Effects on Rainfall and Management of Urban Flooding

    Author : Arun Rana; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Climate Change; Extreme Events; Intensive Rainfall; Urban Drainage; Intensity-Duration-Frequency; Statistical analysis; Flood Management;

    Abstract : Flooding in urban basins is intensifying due to increasing urbanization and climate change and variability. This thesis presents how the effects of climate change and high-intensive rainfall on the urban drainage system and management of flooding in urban areas of were studied in Mumbai, India and Southern Sweden, including Skåne and Gothenburg. Abstract : Flooding is of great concern world-wide, causing damage to infrastructure, property and loss of life. Low-income countries, in particular, can be negatively affected by flood events due to their inherent vulnerabilities. Moreover, data to perform studies for flood risk management in low-income regions are often scarce or lacking sufficient quality. READ MORE

  4. 4. Design flood estimation under uncertainty

    Author : Kenechukwu Okoli; Giuliano Di Baldassarre; András Bárdossy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dimensionerande flöden; osäkerheter; avrinningsmodellering; frekvens analys.; Dimensionerande flöden; osäkerheter; avrinningsmodellering; frekvens analys.; Design flood; uncertainty; rainfall-runoff; frequency analysis.; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : Att bestämma dimensionerande flöden, d.v.s. sannolikheten för att vat-tenföringen i ett vattendrag överskrider ett givet värde, är ett allmänt hydrologiskt problem som exempelvis används för att utvärdera över-svämningsrisker i vattendrag samt för att dimensionera hydrauliska kon-struktioner. 5. 5. Impact of climate variability on dynamic groundwater storage in mid- to high latitude countries

    Author : Michelle Nygren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; time series analysis; groundwater statistics; Sweden; drought; cold region hydrogeology; groundwater memory;

    Abstract : Climate change will alter the hydrological cycle, potentially changing dynamic groundwater storage and increasing groundwater drought risk. Climate influences groundwater storage directly via changes in groundwater recharge, but groundwater drought responsiveness further depends on groundwater system characteristics. READ MORE
