  1. 1. Numerical analyses of stability of a gradually raised tailings dam

    Author : Muhammad Auchar Zardari; Daichao Sheng; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tailings dams; consolidation; rockfill berms; slope stability; corner; internal erosion; finite element analysis; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : Numerical analyses are presented in this thesis to address potential stability problems that may occur during gradual raisings and under seismic loading conditions of Aitik tailings dam in northern Sweden. The dam is mainly raised using upstream construction method. It is planned to raise the dam gradually in several stages. READ MORE

  2. 2. Influence of fluid shear on primary nucleation of low molecular organic compounds in solution

    Author : Jin Liu; Åke Rasmuson; Mårten Behm; Ulf Gedde; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Agitation; Primary nucleation; Induction time; Fluid shear; Energy input; Mass transfer; Molecular alignment; Butyl paraben; Curcumin; m-Hydroxybenzoic acid; Solid-liquid interfacial energy; Nuclei critical radius;

    Abstract : In this project, two experimental systems have been set up to study the influence of fluid shear on primary nucleation. In the first set of experiments, in total about 3000 nucleation experiments have been done with butyl paraben/ethanol solutions, curcumin/ethanol solutions and m-hydroxybenzoic acid/1-propanol solutions in capped vials agitated with magnetic stir bars. 3. 3. Studies on the halothane-diethyl-ether azeotrope

    Author : Sigga Kalman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Requirements for a safe standard for anaesthesia under primitiveconditions differ from those under peaceful circumstances. It is important not to blunt the reflexes that guard vital functions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Trying to secure decent working conditions : Do corporate social responsibility audits improve risk management in global garment supply chains?

    Author : Henrik Lindholm; Sven Ove Hansson; Christina Rudén; Niklas Egels-Zandén; Susanne Sweet; KTH; []
    Keywords : Filosofi; Philosophy;

    Abstract : The outsourcing of the manufacturing of garments to regions with lower production costs has raised concerns over labor rights violations. Retailers and brands have responded to this by introducing codes of conduct outlining minimum requirements for working conditions at their suppliers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Synthetic lubricants and polymer composites for large full film journal bearings

    Author : Gregory F Simmons; Patrick De Baets; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : The rapid build-up of variable renewable power sources such as wind and solar are leading to increased instability in the electrical grid. Many methods of controlling this instability have been proposed but existing hydroelectric power plants in many cases already been enlisted to fill the regulating power needs of industry and the population.
