  1. 1. Movement patterns and displacement of a soil insect

    Author : Elna Nilsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; attraction; repellence; fatty acid; Ecology; Ekologi; alarm; autoregressive model; autocorrelation; random walk; Protaphorura armata; Collembola; migration; dispersal; movement; displacement;

    Abstract : Movement and dispersal are important determinants of the spatial distribution and persistence of animal populations in a heterogeneous environment. I studied the small-scale movement pattern of a soil-living insect, Protaphorura armata (Collembola) by using a video-equipment. READ MORE

  2. 2. Urban outdoor lighting : Pedestrian perception, evaluation and behaviour in the lit environment

    Author : Johan Rahm; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Outdoor lighting; Street lighting; Pedestrian; Walking; Walkability; Perceived safety; Urban design; Perception; Environmental psychology; Elderly; Mobility;

    Abstract : Walking plays an essential role in sustainable transport systems, as nearly all journeys in the urban environment incorporate walking in one way or another. In parts of the world, for long periods of the year, seasonal variation in daylight hours means that pedestrians must rely on outdoor lighting to make cities accessible after dark. READ MORE

  3. 3. People with multiple sclerosis in Stockholm : aspects of motor and cognitive function, activities of daily living and social/lifestyle activities

    Author : Ulrika Einarsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cognition; human activities; movement; multiple sclerosis; population; prevalence; walking;

    Abstract : No population-based, detailed data has been published regarding persons with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) in terms of cognitive function, manual dexterity, general motor capacity, walking capacity, activities of daily living (ADL) and social/lifestyle activities. In addition, there is a lack of knowledge about associations between cognitive function, manual dexterity, walking ability, socio-demographic factors and coping capacity; and independence in ADL and normal frequency of social/lifestyle activities in a population-based sample of PwMS. 4. 4. Spatial Spread of Organisms : Modeling ecological and epidemiological processes

    Author : Tom Lindström; Uno Wennergren; Colleen Webb; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Spatial kernel; Spatially explicit modeling; Disease transmission; Animal movements; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the spread of organisms in both ecological and epidemiological contexts. In most of the studies presented, displacement is modeled with a spatial kernel function, which is characterized by scale and shape. These are measured by the net squared displacement (or kernel variance) and kurtosis, respectively. READ MORE

  5. 5. MIMO Channels - Measurements and Analysis

    Author : Peter Almers; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Signalbehandling; Telecommunication engineering; Telekommunikationsteknik; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik; Signal processing; Teknik; Capacity; Technological sciences; Spatial-multiplexing; Diversity; Measurements; MIMO; Wireless; Communications;

    Abstract : Providing increased transmission speed, quality and an efficient spectrum utilization is crucial for high speed wireless services of today and the future. This thesis is a collection of papers that address an important step in that direction -- the utilization of the spatial domain of the wireless channel. READ MORE
