  1. 6. The use of fluorescence techniques for the study of some membrane-bound photosynthetic properties and some effects of copper on the thylakoid membrane

    Author : Göran Samuelsson; N. Valanne; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chlorophylI-protein complexes; sequential extraction; ß-carotene low temperature fluorescence emission; absorption; in vivo chi. a fluorescence; copper; electron transport;

    Abstract : Lyophilized pea chloroplasts were extracted in a stepwise manner in an organic solvent (petroleum ether) with increasing polarity which was obtained by addition of small amount of ETOH (0-1 %). Absorption and low temperature fluorescence emission spectra were measured on both the extracted thylakoids and on isolated chlorophylI-protein complexes. READ MORE

  2. 7. Rapid sintering of ceramics by intense thermal radiation

    Author : Duan Li; Zhijian Shen; Lutz-Michael Berger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sintering; sintering by intense thermal radiation; spark plasma sintering; heat transfer; mass transfer; scattering; coalescence; densification; grain growth; numerical simulation; porous ceramic; foaming; nanostructure; hierarchical heterogeneities; permeability; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : Sintering is an important processing step for obtaining the necessary mechanical stability and rigidity of ceramic bulk materials. Both mass and heat transfer are essential in the sintering process. The importance of radiation heat transfer is significantly enhanced at high temperatures according to the well-known Stefan-Boltzmann’s law. READ MORE

  3. 8. Printability and Ink-Coating Interactions in Inkjet Printing

    Author : Erik Svanholm; Göran Ström; Gunnar Engström; Janet Preston; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; coating; inkjet; print quality; printability; pigment; silica; polyvinyl alcohol; colorant; ink absorption; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Inkjet is a digital printing process where the ink is ejected directly onto a substrate from a jet device driven by an electronic signal. Most inkjet inks have a low viscosity and a low surface tension, which put high demands on the coating layer’s porosity and absorbency characteristics. READ MORE

  4. 9. Nasal Drug Delivery : In Vitro Studies on Factors Influencing Permeability and Implications on Absorption

    Author : Cecilia Wadell; Frans Merkus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Abstract : Nasal delivery is a feasible alternative to oral or parenteral administration for some drugs because of the high permeability of the nasal epithelium, rapid drug absorption across this membrane and avoidance of hepatic first-pass metabolism. The main objective of this thesis was to investigate factors influencing the permeability of the nasal mucosa to various compounds and to evaluate implications for drug absorption via the nasal route. 5. 10. Probing Catalytic Reaction Mechanisms of Biomimetic Diiron Complexes through Time-resolved Absorption Spectroscopy

    Author : Shihuai Wang; Leif Hammarström; Reiner Lomoth; Jillian Dempsey; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Artificial photosynthesis; Biomimetic catalysts; H2 formation; Catalytic intermediates;

    Abstract : Directed design of improved molecular catalysts for hydrogen evolution reactions relies on rational benchmarking based on a detailed understanding about the mechanism of catalysis. Specifically, investigation of multi-electron redox catalysis, with structural characterization of catalytic intermediates, combined with the kinetics of their transformations, can reveal the rate-limiting step of the overall reaction, possible degradation pathways and the function of structural motives.
