  1. 11. Mating type switching and transcriptional silencing in Kluyveromyces lactis

    Author : Emad Barsoum; Åström Stefan; Laura Rusche; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mating type switch; transcriptional silencing; alpha3; transposase; Ume6; Mts1; Ras; cAMP; K. lactis; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Abstract : To explore the similarities and differences of regulatory circuits among budding yeasts, we characterized the role of unscheduled meiotic gene expression 6 (UME6) and a novel mating type switching pathway in Kluyveromyces lactis. We found that Ume6 was required for transcriptional silencing of the cryptic mating-type loci HMLα and HMRa. READ MORE

  2. 12. Regulation of Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptor Signaling and its Targeting in Cancer Therapy

    Author : Haisha Ma; Johan Lennartsson; Håkan Axelson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PDGF; PDGFR; Ras; macropinocytosis; Fer; STAT3; HD-PTP; Cbl; ubiquitination; pericyte; vasculature; tumor; ASKA; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Overactivity of platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR) is a frequent event in many types of solid tumors. Therefore, it is of great importance to uncover the mechanisms that regulate PDGF/PDGFR signalling, to develop efficient inhibitors targeting this pathway. READ MORE

  3. 13. RAS-MAPK syndromes - a Clinical and Molecular Investigation

    Author : Anna-Maja Nyström; Marie-Louise Bondeson; Göran Annerén; Anna Wedell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; RAS-MAPK syndromes; Noonan syndrome; Neurofibromatosis type I; cardio-facio-cutaneous syndrome; mutation; multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification; gene; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; Klinisk genetik; Clinical Genetics;

    Abstract : The RAS-MAPK syndromes are a group of clinically and genetically related disorders, characterized by cardiac defects, facial dysmorphism, cutaneous abnormalities and neurocognitive impairment. The pathogenesis is dysregulation of the RAS-MAPK pathway, and several genes within the pathway are involved. READ MORE

  4. 14. The Importance of Isoprenylation and Nf1 Deficiency in K-RAS-induced Cancer

    Author : Anna-Karin Sjögren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : FTase; GGTase-I; isoprenylation; K-RAS; NF1; CAAX proteins; lung cancer; AML;

    Abstract : The RAS and RHO family proteins contribute to tumorigenesis and metastasis and belong to a family of so called CAAX proteins. The membrane targeting and proper function of CAAX proteins are dependent on posttranslational isoprenylation by farnesyltransferase (FTase) or geranylgeranyltransferase type I (GGTase-I). READ MORE

  5. 15. Defining RCE1 and ICMT as Therapeutic Targets in K-RAS-induced Cancer

    Author : Annika Wahlström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : RCE1; ICMT; K-RAS; CAAX proteins; MPD; lung cancer;

    Abstract : CAAX proteins, such as the RAS and RHO proteins, are recognized by a specific CAAX motif at the carboxyl terminus, which undergoes posttranslational modifications. First, a lipid group is attached to the cysteine (the “C”) of the CAAX motif by farnesyltransferase (FTase) or geranylgeranyltransferase-I (GGTase-I); second, the –AAX are removed by RAS converting enzyme 1 (RCE1); and third, the cysteine is methylated by isoprenylcysteine carboxyl methyltransferase (ICMT).
