  1. 21. Mesenchymal stromal cells in malignant glioma - Functions and therapeutic potential

    Author : Andreas Svensson; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glioma; glioblastoma; mesenchymal stromal cell; pericyte; immunotherapy; interferon-γ;

    Abstract : The most common malignant brain tumor in adults is a glioma called glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). About 300 persons are diagnosed with GBM every year in Sweden. Unfortunately, it is also the most aggressive brain tumor and as of today, it is not possible to cure it. READ MORE

  2. 22. On inflammatory cytokines and β-amyloid peptides in acute and chronic neurodegeneration

    Author : Roya Tehranian; Gianluigi Forloni; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inflammation; Cytokines; Amyloid; Peptides; Nerve degeneration; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Abstract : Insults to the brain as well as neurodegenerative diseases are known to elicit inflammatory responses. Inflammation in the brain can on one hand initiate processes that are harmful to the injured tissue and exacerbate the damage, leading to neuronal degeneration and glial activation, and on the other hand activate processes that may be necessary for repair mechanisms and regeneration. 3. 23. Use of neural progenitor cell lines and astrocytes for transplantation and gene transfer to the CNS

    Author : Cecilia Lundberg; CNS Genterapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fimbria-fornix lesion; NGF; tyrosine hydroxylase; Parkinson s disease; integration; differentiation; temperature-sensitive; grafting; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Intracerebral neuronal transplantation have been shown to ameliorate symptoms of brain dysfunction in both animals models and Parkinson's disease, although problems still remain. The newly introduced technique of ex vivo gene transfer could serve as an alternative approach, possible avoiding some of the draw-backs of the embryonal tissue used in neuronal grafting. READ MORE

  4. 24. Pharmacological and analytical studies of the cyclin dependent kinase inhibitors

    Author : Hatem H A Sallam; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks) play a key role in the regulation of cell cycle progression and RNA transcription. Deregulation of Cdks has been associated with several malignancies, neurodegenerative disorders, viral and protozoal infections, glomerulonephritis and inflammatory diseases. READ MORE

  5. 25. Studies on molecular properties and functional regulation of terminal leukotriene C4 synthases and cysteinyl-leukotriene receptor signalling in human endothelium

    Author : Oliver Schröder; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The transformation of the unstable intermediate leukotriene (LT) A4 into the glutathione conjugate LTC4, the parent compound of LTD4 and LTE4, is catalysed by leukotriene C4 synthase (LTC4S) as well as microsomal glutathione S-transferase type 2 (MGST2) and type 3 (MGST3). Together, these eicosanoids also known as cysteinyl leukotrienes (cys-LT) are key mediators of immediate hypersensitivity reactions. READ MORE
