6. Computational Methods in Conceptual Structural Design
Abstract : Conceptual design is the first phase in the design process in which all the requirements and design objectives are synthesized into conceptual alternatives. In practice today, major decisions regarding the buildings function, massing, and overall form are usually made during the first phase. READ MORE

7. Exploiting enzyme promiscuity for rational design
Abstract : Enzymes are today well recognized in various industrial applications, being an important component in detergents, and catalysts in the production of agrochemicals, foods, pharmaceuticals, and fine chemicals. Their large use is mainly due to their high selectivity and environmental advantage, compared to traditional catalysts. READ MORE

8. Selective inhibition of acetylcholinesterase 1 from disease-transmitting mosquitoes : design and development of new insecticides for vector control
Abstract : Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is an essential enzyme with an evolutionary conserved function: to terminate nerve signaling by rapid hydrolysis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. AChE is an important target for insecticides. READ MORE

9. Negotiating the value(s) of design(ing): An organisational inquiry
Abstract : Organisations are increasingly calling upon design as a strategic asset to generate innovation as part of a wider fascination with ‘design thinking’ in business. Recent scholarship has tended to emphasise design’s many contributions to business and society, playing a part in the growing recognition and expansion of design as an idea. READ MORE

10. Rational design of novel cell-penetrating peptides
Abstract : Although cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) have been an active field of research for over 20 years there are still properties such as efficiency and stability that must be improved for CPPs to reach their full potential as delivery vectors. In this thesis two peptides were designed for non-covalent oligonucleotide delivery, in an attempt to overcome two major issues hampering wider use of CPPs, namely low stability and endosomal entrapment.
