  1. 1. Quasi-Phasematched nonlinear processes in KTiOPO4 isomorphs

    Author : Anna Fragemann; KTH; []
    Keywords : nonlinear optics; optical parametric oscillator; optical parametric amplifier; KTiOPO4; RbTiOPO4; quasi-phasematched; electric field poling;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the use of nonlinear crystals from theKTiOPO4(KTP) family with the aim to extend the possibleapplications for laser sources and to gain more knowledge aboutthe material’s benefits and limits. The work focussed onoptical parametric oscillators (OPOs) and optical parametricamplifiers (OPAs), which employ second order nonlinearprocesses. READ MORE

  2. 2. Properties of Volume Bragg Gratings and Nonlinear Crystals for Laser Engineering

    Author : Staffan Tjörnhammar; Fredrik Laurell; Valdas Pasiskevicius; Takunori Taira; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; volume Bragg grating; VBG; thermal effects; nonlinear optics; KTiOPO4; quasi-phase matching; photochromic damage; grey-tracking; color centers; blue-light induced infrared absorption; BLIIRA; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on two topics: thermal limitations of volume Bragg gratings (VBGs) employed as laser-cavity mirrors and formation of color centers in KTiOPO4 and its isomorphs.To explore the mechanisms of the thermal limitations of VBGs in high power lasers, I designed and constructed a diode-pumped, solid‑state laser with a VBG as cavity mirror that had a significantly higher absorption than what is typical. 3. 3. Nonlinear Optical Materials Structural Studies of Alkali Titanium Phosphates

    Author : Stefan Norberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear optical materials; alkali titanium phosphates; phase transition; alkaline cation shifts; rare-earth langbeinites; doped KTP isostructures;

    Abstract : Crystals are beautiful, not only as pieces of jewellery, but also for their intrinsic properties, which are of significant scientific and technological importance. Ferroelectric materials are extremely versatile, since they may be combined with piezoelectric or electrooptic devices for use as filters, oscillators, memories, light detectors, and displays. 4. 4. Optical parametric amplification with periodically poled KTiOPO4

    Author : Anna Fragemann; Fredrik Laurell; Ebrahim-Zadeh Majid; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear optics; optical parametric amplification; optical parametric generation; optical parametric oscillation; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the use of engineered nonlinear crystals from the KTiOPO4 (KTP) family as the gain material in optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs), with the aim to achieve more knowledge about the benefits and limitations of these devices. The work aims further at extending the possible applications of OPAs by constructing and investigating several efficient and well performing amplifiers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Characterization of domain switching and optical damage properties in ferroelectrics

    Author : Junji Hirohashi; Fredrik Laurell; Ady Arie; KTH; []
