1. Embedding Theorems for Mixed Norm Spaces and Applications
Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the study of mixed norm spaces that arise in connection with embeddings of Sobolev and Besov type spaces. The work in this direction originates in a paper due to Gagliardo (1958), and was continued by Fournier (1988) and by Kolyada (2005). We consider fully anisotropic mixed norm spaces. READ MORE

2. Embedding Theorems for Mixed Norm Spaces and Applications
Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the study of mixed norm spaces that arise in connection with embeddings of Sobolev and Besov type spaces. We study different structural, integrability, and smoothness properties of functions satisfying certain mixed norm conditions. Conditions of this type are determined by the behaviour of linear sections of functions. READ MORE

3. On the Ring-Opening Reaction of Thiophene-1,1-dioxides and the Intramolecular Diels-Alder Reaction of Azanona- and AzadecatrienesI
Abstract : Substituted thiophene-1,1-dioxides were synthesized and their ring-opening reactions with omega-unsaturated secondary amines were investigated; this led to a synthetic route to azatrienes and to the preparation of some polyhydroisoindoles and polyhydroisoquinolines via an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction. By using 2-substituted pyrrolidines and piperidines various tetrahydrobenzo[f]indolizidines, benzo[b]quinolizidines, tetrahydrobenzo[a]indolizidines and tetrahydro[a]pyrrolizidines could be synthesized via the ring-opening of 3-bromo-2,5-dimmethylthiophene-1,1-dioxide and a subsequent intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction. 4. Noble Metal Catalysed Reductions and Rearrangements
Abstract : The focus of this thesis has been organometallic catalysis applied to compounds containing heteroatoms which are usually poisonous to metal catalysts, by channelling their innate reactivity advantageously. The studies described in this thesis concentrate, in the first part, on iridium catalysed asymmetric hydrogenation (papers I and II) and in the second part, on gold catalysed internal rearrangements (papers III and IV). 5. Combinatorics of genome rearrangements and phylogeny
Abstract : This thesis deals with combinatorial problems taken frombioinformatics. In particular, we study the problem ofinferring distances between bacterial species by looking attheir respective gene orders. We regard one of the gene ordersas a permutation of the other. READ MORE
