11. Exploring the Effects of ICT on Environmental Sustainability: From Life Cycle Assessment to Complex Systems Modeling
Abstract : The production and consumption of information and communication technology (ICT) products and services continue to grow worldwide. This trend is accompanied by a corresponding increase in electricity use by ICT, as well as direct environmental impacts of the technology. Yet a more complicated picture of ICT’s effects is emerging. READ MORE

12. Making the Transition to a ‘Green’ Vehicle Fleet : An analysis of the choice and usage effects of incentivising the adoption of low-emission vehicles
Abstract : Making the transition to a ‘green’ vehicle fleet is a noteworthy endeavour for any policy maker. Under the current global pressures of increasing greenhouse gas emissions there is no doubt that all efforts that can be adopted in order to improve the sustainability of our cities should be explored. 13. Effects of Oral Contraceptives on Endogenous Hormones, Body Constitution, and Breast Epithelium in Healthy, Young Women
Abstract : This thesis concerns the effects of low-dose oral contraceptives (OCs) on endogenous hormones, insulin-like growth-factor-1 (IGF-1), sexual hormone binding globulin (SHBG), and body constitution in two groups of healthy women aged 1925 who had never been pregnant. Prolactin concentrations were elevated in a subgroup of present and former users. READ MORE

14. Effects of Seat and Seat-Belt Design on Car Occupant Response in Frontal and Rear Impacts A Study Combining Mechanical and Mathematical Modelling
Abstract : The objective of the present work is to determine the potential injury-reducing benefits to car occupants in accidents of seat and seat-belt design. The main problems addressed are the risk of injury to head, neck, and upper torso in frontal impacts, and the risk of minor neck-injuries - whiplash-injuries - in rear-end collisions. READ MORE

15. Ion channels and intrinsic membrane properties of locomotor network neurons in the lamprey spinal cord
Abstract : NMDA-receptor dependent membrane potential oscillations and postinhibitory rebound are examples of intrinsic membrane properties of many neurons of rhythm-generating networks, and are considered to play major roles in the operation of the spinal locomotor network of the lamprey vertebrate model. A significant feature of many lamprey spinal cord neurons is their ability to generate pacemaker-like membrane potential oscillations in the presence of the glutamate agonist NMDA. READ MORE
