1. Prior Knowledge and Recognition Memory : a Computational Modeling Approach
Abstract : For more than a century, an immense interest has been devoted to the study of recognition memory, where a multitude of memory phenomena has been explained. Recognition memory is usually described with parsimonious measurement and statistical models, stemming from dual process theory and signal detection theory. READ MORE

2. Quantifying the quality of medical x-ray images. An evaluation based on normal anatomy for lumbar spine and chest radiography
Abstract : Optimisation in diagnostic radiology requires accurate methods for determination of patient absorbed dose and clinical image quality. Simple methods for evaluation of clinical image quality are at present scarce and this project aims at developing such methods. READ MORE

3. Evaluation of image quality and diagnostic accuracy in breast tomosynthesis. Comparison with digital mammography and estimates of radiation risk
Abstract : Recent advances in the digital detector technology have paved the way for modalities such as two-dimensional digital mammography (DM) and three-dimensional breast tomosynthesis (BT). In this work, experimental studies were conducted to investigate the influence of reducing the average glandular dose (AGD) on detection of simulated lesions in DM and to compare the diagnostic accuracy of BT and DM. 4. Detection of pulmonary nodules in chest tomosynthesis: Comparison with chest radiography, evaluation of learning effects and investigation of radiation dose level dependency
Abstract : Chest tomosynthesis is a relatively recently introduced technique in healthcare, which produces section images of the chest at a lower radiation dose than computed tomography (CT) and with better depth resolution than conventional chest radiography. The primary aims of the studies described in this dissertation were to compare chest tomosynthesis with conventional radiography, to evaluate the effects of clinical experience and learning with feedback on the performance of observers analyzing tomosynthesis images, and to investigate the effect of radiation dose level in tomosynthesis, in the detection of pulmonary nodules. 5. Mental illness and criminal behavior : individual characteristics related to criminal conduct among violent offenders with schizophrenia
Abstract : During the last decades, interest has increased in structured risk assessment of future violence as well as in research addressing the link between schizophrenia and violence. The overall aim of this study was to extend our knowledge concerning risk assessment and the connection between schizophrenia and criminal behavior. READ MORE
