1. Metabolic Engineering of Recombinant Protein Production by Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Abstract : The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a widely used cell factory for the production of fuels, chemicals, and it also provides a platform for the production of many heterologous proteins of medical or industrial interest. In this thesis, random and rational approaches, such as vector design, host engineering, fermentation analysis, UV Mutation, coupled with high-throughput systems biology techniques (including whole genomic sequencing, microarray analysis and flux analysis) and integrated analysis (Reporter feature technique), were employed to engineer cellular properties more effectively and purposefully to construct cell factories for protein production. 2. Physiology of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Producing Recombinant Insulin in Continuous Culture
Abstract : The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has widely been used as a host for the production of heterologous proteins. High-level production of heterologous proteins is likely to impose a metabolic burden on the host cell and can thus affect various aspects of cellular physiology. READ MORE

3. Bioprocess Monitoring and Control in Pseudomonas cepacia and recombinant Escherichia coli cultivations
Abstract : The control of cultivation conditions and its influence on growth and production have been investigated. The use of fed-batch processes have been demonstrated for several cultivation systems and so has the use of different control signals in these systems. READ MORE

4. A molecular approach to insulin signalling and caveolae in primary adipocytes
Abstract : The prevalence of type II diabetes is increasing at an alarming rate due to the western world lifestyle. Type II diabetes is characterized by an insulin resistance distinguished by impaired glucose uptake in adipose and muscle tissues. READ MORE

5. Activation and Regulation of TRPV1 : Studies in Recombinant Human Neuroblastoma TRPV1-SHSY5Y Cells
Abstract : TRPV1 is a transmembrane non-selective cation channel with preference for Ca2+. The receptor is primarily localised on dorsal root ganglion neurons and is activated by numerous endogenous and exogenous potentially irritating ligands eliciting pain. READ MORE
