  1. 1. The chimeric SCID mouse in studies of the human immune system

    Author : Mohammad Reza Abedi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Several methods have been developed to transfer components of the human immune system into mice. In particular, the adoptive transfer of human Iymphoid cells or tissues into mice with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID mice) has demonstrated the general applicability of such an approach. 2. 2. Influence on the transcriptome of Tec family kinases with special emphasis on Btk

    Author : Hossain M Nawaz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Over the last decade, scientists all over the world have profoundly used gene expression profiling based on microarray. Affymetrix is considered as the one of the pioneer platforms in the field of microarray technology. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fission yeast mediator complex and its role in transcriptional regulation

    Author : Olga Khorosjutina; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Mediator is an evolutionary conserved co-activator complex that regulates transcription of protein encoding genes in eukaryotes. This multiprotein complex was first identified in budding yeast and shown to be indispensable for RNA polymerase II (pol II) dependent transcription. READ MORE

  4. 4. Bacterial interaction with the fibrinolytic system and extracellular matrix

    Author : Thomas Herrman Eberhard; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : plasminogen; extracellular matrix; basement membrane; virulence factors; fibronectin; vitronectin; collagen; Haemophilus influenzae Neisseria meningitidis Streptococcus pneumoniae;

    Abstract : Bacterial infection of host organisms is a state of complex interaction between the parasite and the host. Two critical steps in the infectious process are: Adhesion to the epithelial surfaces and penetration of tissue barriers to gain entrance to tissues and into the circulation. These two steps have been the subjects of this thesis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular mechanisms for transcription in mammalian mitochondria

    Author : Martina Gaspari; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : mitochondria; oxidative phosphorylation; mtDNA; transcription; TFAM; TFB1M TFB2M; POLRMT; promoter recognition; CSB II;

    Abstract : The circular double stranded mitochondrial genome (mtDNA), which is about 16,600 bp in humans and 16,300 bp in mice, encodes 13 of the -90 different proteins present in the respiratory chain of mammalian mitochondria. The remaining components of the respiratory chain are encoded by nuclear genes and imported into the mitochondrial network. READ MORE
