1. Monitoring of Cellular Dynamics with Focus on Electrochemical Detection Techniques
Abstract : This thesis presents work in two main areas of focus, the development of electroanalytical techniques to monitor the dynamics of cellular processes as well as design and fabrication of microelectrode chips for electrochemical detection as well as a prototype microfluidic system to be used for cell analysis and culturing. The electrochemically monitored cellular parameters were the cellular redox environment (CRE), cell adhesion and exocytosis. READ MORE

2. Structural and biochemical analysis of two copper proteins - plastocyanin from spinach and nitrite reductase from Rhodobacter sphaeroides 2.4.3
Abstract : Plastocyanin from spinach and nitrite reductase from Rhodobacter sphaeroides 2.4.3 are two copper-containing proteins that are involved in biological electron transport chains: plastocyanin operates in photosynthesis and nitrite reductase takes part in the denitrification pathway. 3. Molecular Pharmacology and Structure Function Modelling of the Leukotriene B4 Receptor BLT1
Abstract : Leukotrienes are membrane derived bioactive lipids that play an important role in immune responses by initiating and maintaining the inflammatory responses. Leukotriene B4 (LTB4) released at the site of an inflammatory response attracts, activates and prolongs the life of leukocytes and lymphocytes. READ MORE

4. Bacteria and geochemistry in a former uranium open pit mine - mobilization of trace metals
Abstract : In mining areas around the world, chemical and biotic processes have lead to the release of toxic substances, e.g. metals. Microbial processes influence metal speciation, while the chemical environment shapes and controls microbial populations. READ MORE

5. Electrochemical Studies of Redox Properties and Diffusion in Self-Assembled Systems
Abstract : In this thesis electron transfer reactions and diffusion of redox molecules in three different types of self-aggregated structures are investigated. Electrochemistry was used to investigate the redox potential and diffusion coefficients for redox active molecules with different polarity. The first aggregate system studied was the micellar phase.
