  1. 6. A geophysical investigation of carbonate build-ups in the Baltic Basin using reflection seismic and well data

    Author : Tegan Levendal; Christopher Juhlin; Lars Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Reflection seismic; Ordovician; Silurian; Carbonate mud mounds; Reefs; Gotland; Sweden; CAES; Seismic interpretation; OPAB dataset; 3D seismic; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : During the Late Ordovician, the region around Gotland was part of a shallow epicratonic basin in the southern subtropics. Low latitudes, relatively warm sea temperatures and the presence of a shallow marine environment promoted algae to flourish and diverse carbonate build-ups such as carbonate mounds and reefs developed on the southern margin of Baltica. 2. 7. Coral reefs in the Anthropocene : The effects of stress on coral metabolism and symbiont composition

    Author : Suzanne Faxneld; Michael Tedengren; Alina Szmant; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Corals; Disturbance; Galaxea fascicularis; ITS2; Metabolism; mtDNA; Pollution; Porites lutea; Symbiodinium; Temperature; Turbinaria mesenterina; Vietnam; Marine Ecotoxicology; marin ekotoxikologi;

    Abstract : Coral reefs constitute some of the most prolific and diverse ecosystems on our planet, but also among the most threatened. This thesis investigates the effects of environmental stressors on corals’ metabolism and symbiont diversity. READ MORE

  3. 8. Reef biostromes and related facies from the Middle Silurian of Gotland, Sweden

    Author : Olof Sandström; Geologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; physical geography; Geology; stromatoporoids; facies analysis; palaeobiology; Reefs; biostromes; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : Reef biostromes and related facies from the upper part of Wenlock and from Ludlow were investigated in order to account for their formation, their palaeoecology and biology. In the Hemse Group of Ludlow age, all studied biostromes comprise a low diversity fauna where one or few species dominates. READ MORE

  5. 10. Coral reefs in a human-dominated environment : implications of altered disturbance regimes and reduced resilience

    Author : Magnus Nyström; Terry Done; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Korallrev; Ekosystem i vatten; Marine Ecotoxicology; marin ekotoxikologi;

    Abstract : Coral reefs are facing an "Anthropocene " era where humans have advanced from a minor species with limited influence on coral reefs to a major source of disturbance. Disturbance arriving from human influences may not only interact with each other, but also with natural disturbance regimes, leading to synergistic effects. READ MORE
