  1. 6. Impacts of Regional Climate Change on Swedish Forests: An Evaluation Using Process-based Regional Ecosystem Modelling Approach

    Author : Deniz Koca; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysisk geografi; Geologi; Geology; physical geography; Sweden; forest management; diversity; carbon sequestration; net primary productivity; regional climate change; process-based regional ecosystem modelling;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to provide a representative estimate of the potential impacts of climate change and increased atmospheric CO2 concentrations on Swedish forest ecosystems and the key ecosystem services they provide. In order to achieve this task, fi rst LPJ-GUESS, a process-based regional ecosystem modelling framework, was applied to explore how possible shifts in climatic zones according to a range of regional climate scenarios may lead to changes in the tree species distribution and composition, net primary productivity (NPP) and carbon sequestration capacity of potential natural ecosystems on species level and at the regional scale. 2. 7. Same, Same but Different: On the Design of Cross-Regional Advisory Traffic Information Systems

    Author : Minjuan Wang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; traffic safety culture; driving behavior; visual auditory; advisory traffic information system; cross-regional adaptation design; user interface design; information requirements;

    Abstract : As the automotive markets increase rapidly in developing countries, the study of cross-regional differences is certainly becoming an important consideration for in-vehicle technology design. Particularly, when moving from immediate/operational responses to warnings towards tactical responses to advisory information, culture in the form of traffic safety culture (TSC) comes into play in relation to both the information needs and drive behaviours. 3. 8. Decision Support Model for a Sustainable Regional Water Supply

    Author : Karin Sjöstrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multi-criteria decision analysis; inter-municipal cooperation; drinking water supply; cost-benefit analysis; decision support; regionalization; sustainability; economic valuation;

    Abstract : Water supply provision has traditionally been a municipal responsibility. However, environmental, social and economic drivers are now making it more attractive to manage the water services in a more aggregated way. READ MORE

  4. 9. Impacts and drivers of insect herbivory on element cycling in forests globally

    Author : Bernice Hwang; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biogeochemical cycling; folivory; insect cadavers; insect frass; insect herbivory; litter decomposition; nutrient cycling; carbon; nitrogen; phosphorus; silicon; silica;

    Abstract : The effects of insect herbivores on forest functioning are not well understood even though they can have important impacts on ecosystem processes by intercepting foliage before resorption and depositing nutrient-rich materials to the soil. In this thesis, I investigated the impact and drivers of insect folivores on carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and silica (Si) cycling in broadleaf forests, and how this varies with major climate variables. 5. 10. Conceptual design and investigation of hydrogen-fueled regional freighter aircraft

    Author : Kolja Seeckt; Arthur Rizzi; Petter Krus; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the conceptual design and comparison of five versions of regional freighter aircraft based on the ATR 72. The versions comprise four baseline designs differing in their propulsion systems (jet/turboprop) and the fuel they use (kerosene/hydrogen). READ MORE
