16. Blood Vessels, Biomarkers, and Broken Barriers: lnvestigations of the Brain Vasculature in Models of Neonatal Brain lnjuries
Abstract : Brain injury during the perinatal period can lead to lifelong impairment in cognitive and motor function, or an early death. Term neonatal encephalopathy and preterm germinal matrix haemorrhage are two conditions that can irreversibly injure the brain, but clinical tools for diagnosing and treating these pathologies are lacking. 17. Intravasal microdialysis as a novel technique to monitor metabolism in myocardial ischemia and critical illness
Abstract : Rapid detection of post-operative myocardial ischemia is of great value in the treatment of patients undergoing cardiac surgery. With the methods readily available in modem thoracic intensive care units post-operative myocardial ischemia is difficult to detect, and the risk of myocardial ischemia and other complications after cardiac surgery is particularly high in patients with concurrent co-morbidity. 18. Clinical Bedside Studies of Cerebral Blood Flow in Severe Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Using Xenon CT
Abstract : Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is frequently complicated by delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI), contributing to poor outcome. Particularly for patients in poor neurological state, prediction of the acute clinical course is difficult, as is the early detection of DCI. READ MORE

19. Quantification of cardiovascular flow and motion : aspects of regional myocardial function and flow patterns in the aortic root and the aorta
Abstract : Quantification of cardiovascular flow and motion is essential in the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of cardiovascular disease. The accuracy and quantification of many imaging methods used in this field have important shortfalls, however, that result from limitations in spatial and temporal dimensions. READ MORE

20. NMDA receptors in neurodegeneration : studies on NMDA receptor subunit expression preceding ischemia-induced delayed nerve cell death
Abstract : NMDA receptors are glutamate-gated ion channels that are permeable to Ca2+. NMDA receptors are tetramers formed by a combination of subunits. In the present thesis, we describe the novel NR3B subunit that we cloned in mouse and human. NR3B was found to be expressed in the adult rat and human central nervous system (CNS). READ MORE
