16. C–H activation through late transition metal cyclometallation. Addressing selectivity and reactivity problems
Abstract : The ligand-directed C—H activation relies on a coordinating donor atom being in proximity to the C—H bond activated. Cyclometallation of 2-(1-naphthyl)-pyridine – a substrate containing both γ- and δ-positions in proximity to the directing nitrogen atom – was studied. READ MORE

17. Regiocontrol in the Heck-reaction and fast fluorous chemistry
Abstract : The palladium-catalysed Heck-reaction has been utilised in organic synthesis, where the introduction of aryl groups at the internal, β-carbon of different allylic substrates has been achieved with high regioselectivity. The β-stabilising effect of silicon enhances the regiocontrol in the internal arylation of allyltrimethylsilane, while a coordination between palladium and nitrogen induces very high regioselectivities in the arylation of N,N-dialkylallylamines and the Boc-protected allylamine, producing β-arylated arylethylamines, which are of interest for applications in medicinal chemistry. 18. Synthetic studies on naphthoxylosides - labeled compounds and mechanistic studies on acetals
Abstract : Labeled analogs to an antiproliferative naphthoxyloside have been synthesized and evaluated. Our investigations have shown that the fluorescently labeled analogs are poor structural analogs, and the physical and biological properties are altered to a large extent. READ MORE

19. New Reactions with Allyl- and Allenylboron Reagents : Transition-Metal-Catalyzed and Transition-Metal-Free Carbon-Carbon Bond Formation Processes
Abstract : Organoboron compounds have been widely used in carbon-carbon bond formation reactions in organic synthesis and catalysis. This thesis is focused on cross-coupling reactions of allyl-, allenylboronic acids and their ester derivatives via transition metal catalysis or transition-metal-free processes. READ MORE

20. New Strategies for Transition Metal-mediated (Hetero)arene Functionalization
Abstract : This thesis describes new approaches to achieve efficient and selective (hetero)arene derivatization using transition metals. The main focus falls on the use of strategies based on C–H activation and organo-main group reactivity to render the synthesis of various (hetero)arene derivatives more direct, efficient, regioselective and sustainable.
