  1. 16. Posttranscriptional regulation of gene expression in retroviruses and human papillomaviruses

    Author : Wei Tan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : CTE; EIAV; HIV- 1; HPV; Rev; RRE; splice site; SRV- 1; 3 UTR Stockholm 1996 Doctoral Thesis;

    Abstract : Human immunodeficiency virus type I (HIV-1) is the prototype of complex retroviruses, whereas human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are nonenveloped, cricular double-stranded DNA viruses. The HIV-1 Rev protein is a posttranscriptional regulator, which acts on its target RNA sequence termed the Rev-responsive element (RRE) to facilitate nuclear export of unspliced and partially spliced HIV-1 mRNAs, and to improve their stability and translatability. 2. 17. Statistical analysis of gene expression data

    Author : Erik Kristiansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gene expression; DNA microarrays; linear models; empirical Bayes; quality control; gene regulation; categorical data analysis; logistic regression; heavy metal stress; ecotoxicology; gene expression;

    Abstract : Microarray technology has become one of the most important tools for genome-wide mRNA measurements. The technique has been successfully applied to many areas in modern biology including cancer research, identification of drug targets, and categorization of genes involved in the cell cycle. 3. 18. Studies on natural antisense RNAs and microRNAs

    Author : Omid Reza Faridani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Regulatory RNAs are found in all kingdoms of life and involved in regulation of gene expression at various steps including RNA splicing, editing, stability, modification, export, translation and chromatin remodelling. A large number of regulatory RNAs have been described recently. READ MORE

  4. 19. Small non-coding RNA in early fly development : plasticity, interactions and improved bioinformatic tools

    Author : Lovisa Örkenby; Anita Öst; Rashmi Ramesh; Daniel Nätt; Nicola Iovino; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; Maternal-to-zygotic transition; sncRNA; miRNA; piRNA; Embryogenesis; Zygotic gene activation;

    Abstract : At fertilization, the male and female pronuclei undergo a transformation from germline to pluripotency as they fuse, marking the beginning of Drosophila embryogenesis. As the parental contributions decrease, the zygote takes control of its genome in a process called the maternal-to-zygotic transition (MZT). READ MORE

  5. 20. Diazotrophy and diversity of benthic cyanobacteria in tropical coastal zones

    Author : Karolina Bauer; Birgitta Bergman; Paul K. Hayes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marine cyanobacteria; benthic nitrogen fixation; diversity; diazotrophy; Lyngbya majuscula; Zanzibar; western Indian Ocean; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Discoveries in recent years have disclosed the importance of marine cyano-bacteria in the context of primary production and global nitrogen cycling. It is hypothesized here that microbial mats in tropical coastal habitats harbour a rich diversity of previously uncharacterized cyanobacteria and that benthic marine nitrogen fixation in coastal zones is substantial.
