  1. 1. Theoretical and numerical bimetric relativity

    Author : Francesco Torsello; Edvard Mörtsell; Eugeny Babichev; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin-2 fields; extension of general relativity; ghost-free bimetric theory; Hassan–Rosen bimetric relativity; numerical relativity; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : General relativity (GR) is the standard physical theory describing gravitational interactions. All astrophysical and cosmological observations are compatible with its predictions, provided that unknown matter and energy components are included. These are called dark matter and dark energy. 2. 2. Relativizing linguistic relativity : Investigating underlying assumptions about language in the neo-Whorfian literature

    Author : Ingrid Björk; Åke Viberg; Pär Segerdahl; Talbot J. Taylor; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Linguistics; Linguistic relativity hypothesis; Sapir-Whorf hypothesis; Language and thought; Neo-Whorfianism; Lingvistik; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Abstract : This work concerns the linguistic relativity hypothesis, also known as the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, which, in its most general form claims that ‘lan-guage’ influences ‘thought’. Past studies into linguistic relativity have treated various aspects of both thought and language, but a growing body of literature has recently emerged, in this thesis referred to as neo-Whorfian, that empirically investigates thought and language from a cross-linguistic perspective and claims that the grammar or lexicon of a particular language influences the speakers’ non-linguistic thought. 3. 3. Perturbative Methods in General Relativity

    Author : Daniel Eriksson; Michael Bradley; Gert Brodin; Lászlo Árpád Gergely; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; General relativity; perturbation theory; photon-photon scattering; cosmology; FRW models with cosmological constant; Bianchi type V; slowly rotating stars; Hartle formalism; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Einstein's theory of general relativity is a cornerstone in the process of gaining increased understanding about problems of gravitational nature. It can be applied to problems on the huge length scales of cosmology and as far as we know it does not break down before the Planck scale is approached. READ MORE

  4. 4. Stellar Models in General Relativity

    Author : Lars Samuelsson; Kjell Rosquist; Brandon Carter; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; General relativity; compact objects; neutron stars; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Neutron stars are some of the most fascinating objects in Nature. Essentially all aspects of physics seems to be represented inside them. Their cores are likely to contain deconfined quarks, hyperons and other exotic phases of matter in which the strong interaction is the dominant force. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cosmological Models and Singularities in General Relativity

    Author : Patrik Sandin; Claes Uggla; Alan Coley; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; general relativity; Bianchi cosmology; singularities; dynamical systems; Fuchsian methods; Hamiltonian methods; Theory of relativity; gravitation; Relativitetsteori; gravitation; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This is a thesis on general relativity. It analyzes dynamical properties of Einstein's field equations in cosmology and in the vicinity of spacetime singularities in a number of different situations. READ MORE
