  1. 1. Bed filters for phosphorus removal in on-site wastewater treatment : Removal mechanisms and sustainability

    Author : David Eveborn; Jon Petter Gustafsson; Gunno Renman; Erik Kärrman; Lars Lövgren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; On-site wastewater treatment; Eutrophication; Environmental impact assessment; Phosphorus removal mechanisms; Soil infiltration; Reactive bed filters; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik; Soil chemistry; Markkemi;

    Abstract : For many surface waters, phosphorus (P) leaching is a serious problem that should be minimized to prevent eutrophication. In Sweden there is a demand for physical and technical development of high-performance P removal techniques to reduce phosphorus leaching from on-site wastewater treatment systems to the Baltic Sea. 2. 2. On-site wastewater treatment : Polonite and other filter materials for removal of metals, nitrogen and phosphorus

    Author : Agnieszka Renman; Per-Erik Jansson; Lars D. Hylander; Gunno Renman; Björn Klöve; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alkaline materials; heavy metals; mechanisms; nutrient removal; sorption; speciation modelling; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Bed filters using reactive materials are an emerging technology for on-site wastewater treatment. Chemical reactions transfer contaminants from the aqueous to the solid phase. Phosphorus is removed from domestic wastewater by sorption to filter materials, which can then be recycled to agriculture as fertilisers and soil amendments. READ MORE

  3. 3. Enhanced phosphorus removal from wastewater using virgin and modified slags : performance, speciation and mechanisms

    Author : Minyu Zuo; Gunno Renman; Jon Petter Gustafsson; Lars Lövgren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; AOD; EAF; BFS; Calcium phosphate; XANES; slag mineralogy; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : Argon oxygen decarburization slag (AOD) was tested in batch and column experiments to investigate its phosphorus (P) removal performance. The effects of factors such as AOD dose, initial P concentration of the feeding solution, and aging on the P removal ability of the slags were analyzed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Sustainable phosphorus removal in onsite wastewater treatment

    Author : David Eveborn; Jon Petter Gustafsson; Gunno Renman; Erik Kärrman; Paul Withers; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Onsite wastewater treatment; Soil treatment system; Phosphorus; Removal mechanisms; Environmental impacts; Life cycle assessment;

    Abstract : Aquatic eutrophication is a serious environmental problem that occurs all over the world. To protect surface waters (in particular the Baltic Sea), the regulatory pressure on onsite wastewater treatment (OWT) systems have increased in Sweden. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantification of sources and removal mechanisms of atmospheric aerosol particles

    Author : Henrik Grythe; Johan Ström; Dominick Spracklen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aerosol; aerosol removal; aerosol emission; aerosol sources; FLEXPART; Arctic aerosol; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The focus of this work has been to quantify important processes for climatically relevant aerosols, and to improve our understanding of, and ability to accurately model, aerosols in the atmosphere on a large scale. This thesis contains five papers focused on different parts of the life cycle of atmospheric aerosol particles. READ MORE
