31. Markers of inflammation and cardiovascular disease in dialysis patients : variability and prognostic value
Abstract : Patients with end-stage renal disease are burdened with a high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Inflammation is a common feature in these patients and strongly associates with cardiovascular complications and outcome. READ MORE

32. Lipoprotein lipase activity is reduced in dialysis patients. Studies on possible causal factors
Abstract : Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of mortality and morbidity in patients on chronic haemodialysis (HD). One main contributing factor is renal dyslipidaemia, characterized by an impaired catabolism of triglyceride (TG)-rich lipoproteins with accumulation of atherogenic remnant particles. READ MORE

33. Erythrocyte amino acids in health and renal failure and their association to the IGF-I/IGFBP-1 axis
Abstract : Abnormalities in amino acids (AA) metabolism in uraemia have mainly been reported to occur in plasma and muscle. No investigation has been undertaken to evaluate the AA levels in plasma, muscle and red blood cells (RBC) simultaneously, although the RBC pool of free AA constitutes a large proportion of the free AA in blood, and RBC are involved in the interorgan transport of AA. 34. Intracellular free amino acids and nutritional status in children with chronic renal failure on different treatments
Abstract : In untreated adult patients with chronic renal failure (CRF), and in chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and kidney-transplanted patients, typical plasma and muscle intracellular amino acid (AA) patterns have been described. Similar AA abnormalities to those seen in adult patients have been observed in plasma and muscle tissue of children with CRF, but no studies have been undertaken to evaluate the AA levels in plasma and muscle in children on CAPD or after kidney transplantation. 35. Dialysis initiation and clinical outcomes in chronic kidney disease : role of education and biomarkers
Abstract : For patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who develop kidney failure, renal replacement therapy (RRT) with kidney transplantation is the best treatment option. But if this is not possible due to lack of organs or medical factors, dialysis initiation with haemodialysis (HD) or peritoneal dialysis (PD) is required. READ MORE
