  1. 1. Renal Dysfunction and Cardiovascular Disease

    Author : Inga Soveri; Bengt Fellström; Lars Lind; Ola Samuelsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Internal medicine; renal dysfunktion; cardiovascular disease; risk factor; mortality; endothelial dysfunction; arterial stiffness; oxidative stress; inflammation; renal transplantation; haemodialysis; general population; Invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Kidney dysfunction increases cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The mechanisms for the risk increase seem to involve a combination of traditional and non-traditional CVD risk factors.We studied renal dysfunction as CVD and mortality risk factor in middle-aged men free from diabetes and CVD. 2. 2. Cytomegalovirus Infection in Immunocompetent and Renal Transplant Patients : Clinical Aspects and T-cell Specific Immunity

    Author : Fredrik Sund; Britt-Marie Eriksson; Olle Korsgren; Halvor Rollag; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytomegalovirus; renal transplantation; cellular immunity; valacyclovir; mismatched; prophylaxis; tetramer; CD4 T cells; CD8 T cells; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a β-herpesvirus that, after primary infection, establishes a life-long persistence in the human host. Up to 90% of humans are infected with CMV, that is kept under control by CMV-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cells. In patients with an impaired cellular immunity, however, CMV infections can be life-threatening. READ MORE

  3. 3. 3D Rotational Angiography of Transplanted Renal Arteries : A Clinical and Experimental Study

    Abstract : Three-dimensional rotational angiography (3D-RA) is an established method within the field of interventional neuroradiology. The method has also a great potential in other areas with a complicated arterial anatomy. READ MORE

  4. 4. Persistent hyperparathyroidism in renal transplant patients

    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kideny transplantation; parathyroidectomy; bone mineral density; DXA; fracture; new onset diabetes after transplantation;

    Abstract : Abstract Disorders in mineral metabolism and secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT) are well known complications in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Hyperparathyroidism (HPT) persists in a majority of patients after kidney transplantation (KTx). READ MORE

  5. 5. Herpesvirus infections in transplant recipients

    Author : Jenny K Lindahl; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Allogeneic stem cell transplantation; Cytomegalovirus; Epstein-Barr virus; Human Herpesvirus type 6; Renal transplantation; Varicella zoster virus;

    Abstract : Abstract Herpesvirus infections are common and can cause serious and life-threatening conditions in transplanted individuals. In this thesis, consisting of 4 papers (I-IV), we investigated primary infection and reactivation of Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Human Herpesvirus type 6 (HHV-6), Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) and Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) in transplant patients.
